{"id":334117,"date":"2024-02-07T16:22:35","date_gmt":"2024-02-07T15:22:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2024\/02\/07\/parlamento-e-stati-confermano-gli-impegni-finanziari-del-nuovo-bilancio-e-della-piattaforma-step\/"},"modified":"2024-02-09T17:30:58","modified_gmt":"2024-02-09T16:30:58","slug":"parliament-and-states-confirm-new-budget-and-step-platform-financial-commitments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/02\/07\/parliament-and-states-confirm-new-budget-and-step-platform-financial-commitments\/","title":{"rendered":"Parliament and states confirm new budget and STEP platform financial commitments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Strasbourg, <em>from the correspondent<\/em> &#8211; Mid-term budget review (2021-2027) and clean technology platform: Having overcome the impasse of <strong>Viktor Orb\u00e1n&#8217;s veto on the \u20ac50 billion financial instrument for Ukraine<\/strong>, negotiators from the EU Parliament and Council reached an agreement in Strasbourg, in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, on the so-called Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and on the new Clean Technology Platform (STEP), proposed by the Commission last June 20 as a structural instrument to finance part of the goals of the <strong>Industrial Plan for the Green Deal announced last February<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As for the budget review, the colegislators confirmed the resources<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2024\/02\/01\/revisione-bilancio-ue-accordo-consiglio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> agreed upon by EU leaders at the extraordinary Feb. 1 summit<\/a>. <strong>50 billion euros<\/strong> will be mobilized for the Ukraine Facility, divided into <strong>33 billion in loans<\/strong> and <strong>17 billion in grants<\/strong>. For migration and external challenges, the budget revision allocates an additional \u20ac2 billion for migration and border management and \u20ac7.6 billion for the external dimension: \u20ac3.1 billion to support priorities in the EU&#8217;s neighbouring regions and globally, and another \u20ac4.5 billion to be reallocated from other EU external policy programs.<br \/>\nEU crisis preparedness and budget flexibility are strengthened with an additional 3.5 billion euros.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-o-mail-quote-node=\"1\" data-o-mail-quote=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ufe0f Deal ! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EUCouncil?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@EUCouncil<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Europarl_EN?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@Europarl_EN<\/a> reach a provisional agreement on the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/STEP?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#STEP<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The platform will boost investments in critical technologies in Europe in areas such as digital and deep tech, clean tech, and biotech. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AyaKJS62Uk\">pic.twitter.com\/AyaKJS62Uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU 2024 (@EU2024BE) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EU2024BE\/status\/1755060963068305701?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February 7, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As part of the budget review, negotiators reached an agreement on the 1.5 billion euros for the STEP platform, resources that will go specifically for its defence investment component. &#8220;The platform will mobilize investments in the areas of deep and digital technology, clean technology and biotechnology, with the overall objective of strengthening EU sovereignty and long-term competitiveness in critical technologies,&#8221; the Council explains in a note.
