Representatives of the well-known brand were repeatedly invited to hearings by MEPs to discuss working conditions in Amazon warehouses. It<strong>\u00a0is the second time in history the European Parliament has banned a lobby group from its premises<\/strong>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/topics\/en\/article\/20171124STO88814\/glyphosate-renewal-parliament-puts-people-s-health-first\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #4a6ee0;\">The first time was in 2017 with Monsanto<\/span><\/a>. &#8220;Amazon refuses to answer to the EU Parliament, and it is only right that its access be removed\u200b,&#8221; said Esther Lynch, secretary general of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). That is not enough, however. Lynch urges the EU Parliament to adopt an even tougher line. &#8220;<strong>We call for this decision to apply to all Amazon lobbyists, including its consultants&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The company replied some hours later. <span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&#8220;We have repeatedly expressed our willingness to discuss with the members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/committees\/en\/empl\/home\/highlights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Employement and Social affairs committee<\/a> and on several occasions we have invited them to visit our facilities,&#8221; <strong>Amazon said in a statement.<\/strong> \u201cThe invitation is still valid and we would welcome the opportunity to showcase the investments we have made to ensure our work environments are modern, inclusive and safe\u201d. Furthermore the same official statement stressed that &#8220;Amazon regularly participates in activities organized by the European Parliament and other EU institutions, including parliamentary hearings, and remains committed to participating in a balanced and constructive dialogue on issues that concern European citizens&#8221;.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">That&#8217;s why &#8220;<strong>we are very disappointed by this decision<\/strong>&#8220;, the company complained.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&#8220;As a company active in the European Union for over 25 years and with more than 150,000 permanent employees, we take our commitment to policy makers in Brussels and across Europe very seriously.
