The opening of the Cypriot sea corridor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/03\/08\/cyprus-first-humanitarian-aid-on-maritime-corridor-to-gaza-von-der-leyen-it-can-make-a-difference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> Friday, March 8 with the visit to the island of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, is jammed even before it becomes a reality. <strong>The ship of the Open Arms NGO remains docked &#8220;due to some technical considerations,&#8221;<\/strong> diplomatic sources specify. He added that he would not make public the exact timing for security reasons. The Cypriot government spokesman also stated that <strong>&#8220;the ship was checked, as requested<\/strong>, by the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus following all the protocols stipulated in the planning,&#8221; in official coordination with Tel Aviv and\u00a0the presence of Israeli representatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cna.org.cy\/en\/article\/6369485\/technical-reasons-delay-humanitarian-aid-ship-to-gaza\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to<\/a>\u00a0the <em>CNA<\/em>,\u00a0 the slowdown was because &#8220;the platform in Gaza that will receive the humanitarian aid towed by the ship is not yet ready.&#8221; European Commission chief spokesman Eric Mamer said that &#8220;there are different ways in which a ship can be unloaded,&#8221; depending on &#8220;size, cargo, weather, and security conditions.&#8221; He confirmed that &#8220;<strong>there is a plan to unload aid&#8221; regardless of the U.S. initiative to build a temporary dock<\/strong>. The floating port &#8220;will help to unload heavier cargo once it is operational,&#8221; Mamer said. In Washington, they predict not before six weeks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">Open Arms sources\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/efe.com\/mundo\/2024-03-09\/barco-open-arms-corredor-humanitario-gaza-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a>\u00a0the Spanish Agency\u00a0<em>EFE <\/em>that\u00a0<strong>a breakwater in the arrival area\u00a0was planned to<\/strong> unload the nearly 200 tons of flour, rice, and canned food directly onto Gaza&#8217;s beaches.
