Israel: &#8220;They chose to reward Hamas&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels &#8211; The\u00a0EU&#8217;s two\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/02\/14\/spain-ireland-call-for-a-review-of-human-rights-commitments-under-the-eu-israel-association-agreement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most active<\/a> countries in solidarity with the Palestinian people are breaking the hesitation announcing that they recognize the State of Palestine. <strong>Spain and Ireland will take the formal step on May 28. For peace,\u00a0justice, and consistency,&#8221; Sanchez said in the House. According to\u00a0the Norwegian Premier, &#8220;<strong>There can be no peace in the Middle East if there is no recognition<\/strong>.&#8221; Of the same opinion, Harris said, &#8220;Recognition of the State of Palestine represents unequivocal support for the two-state solution&#8221; and is &#8220;the only credible path to peace between Israel and Palestine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">All three hope other countries would follow, beginning with <strong>Slovenia<\/strong>, which in recent months said it was ready to unilaterally recognize Palestine and should proceed by 13 June &#8211; when Parliament in Ljubljana will vote on the issue -. <strong>Belgium, Luxembourg, and Portugal<\/strong> have been wavering between unilateral action and the official position of the EU bloc that is ready to recognize Ramallah only once it is part of a two-state solution process. With the announcement of Spain and Ireland, there will now be 11 EU capitals\u00a0recognizing Ramallah, still less than half. Nothing could be further from the mark, judging from Tel Aviv&#8217;s reaction to the announcement by Spain, Ireland, and Norway: <strong>Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has already ordered back its ambassadors in Dublin and Oslo<\/strong>, threatening to do the same with the Israeli diplomatic corps in Madrid.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_362914\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 389px;\"><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Israel will not remain silent in the face of those\u00a0undermining its sovereignty and endangering its security,&#8221; Katz said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Israel_katz\/status\/1793174400151249194\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>, arguing that in doing so,\u00a0<strong>the three countries &#8220;chose to reward Hamas and Iran&#8221; despite &#8220;the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust<\/strong>.&#8221; According to\u00a0the Minister, unilateral recognition of Palestine &#8220;undermines the chances for peace and calls into question Israel&#8217;s right to peace.&#8221; Katz goes further, <strong>threatening &#8220;further grave consequences&#8221;<\/strong> against the three countries, who have done nothing but conform to the 139 UN member countries that have already recognized the State of Palestine: about 70 percent of those sitting in the UN General Assembly.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src='https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/18071724\/embed' title='Interactive or visual content' class='flourish-embed-iframe' frameborder='0' scrolling='no' style='width:100%;height:600px;' sandbox='allow-same-origin allow-forms allow-scripts allow-downloads allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation'><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div style='width:100%!;margin-top:4px!important;text-align:right!important;'><a class=\"flourish-credit\" href=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/18071724\/?utm_source=embed&#038;utm_campaign=visualisation\/18071724\" target=\"_top\" style=\"text-decoration:none!important\" rel=\"noopener\"><img alt='Made with Flourish' src='https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/made_with_flourish.svg' style='width:105px!important;height:16px!important;border:none!important;margin:0!important;'> <\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Formal recognition on May 28, according to Madrid, Dublin, and Oslo &#8220;there can be no peace in the Middle East if there is no recognition&#8221;.
