The Estonian Premier, <strong>Kaja Kallas<\/strong>, recoiled with a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/kajakallas\/status\/1793874548666101976\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a> on X: &#8220;Russia&#8217;s action is part of the broader pattern of its <strong>provocative behavior throughout Europe, including on the borders with neighboring countries<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_336396\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 449px;\">\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_336396\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-336396\" style=\"width: 449px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/000_34HC7NP-scaled-e1707923538158.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-336396\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/000_34HC7NP-scaled-e1707923538158-300x163.jpg\" alt=\"Vladimir Putin Russia\" width=\"449\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-336396\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin (credits: Natalia Kolesnikova \/ Afp)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/figure>\n<p>The implicit reference is to what happened earlier this week, with a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2024\/05\/23\/russia-documento-frontiere-baltico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mysterious official document<\/a> from the Russian Defense Ministry to <strong>revise Russia&#8217;s maritime border in the eastern Baltic Sea<\/strong>. The reason for the\u00a0proposal, which came without consulting with the region&#8217;s neighbors and that disappeared from the Ministry&#8217;s website within a few hours since its announcement,\u00a0\u00a0was that\u00a0the 1985 Soviet measurement of the border would have used nautical charts from the mid-20th century and, therefore,\u00a0does\u00a0<strong>not fully correspond to &#8220;more modern&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0map\u00a0coordinates. The changes were to take effect in January 2025 and were intended for ship crews, law enforcement,\u00a0defense, and security officials operating in the Eastern Gulf of Finland.<\/p>\n<p>Just days after the first diplomatic provocation, <strong>all Baltic and Scandinavian capitals are following with concern the Kremlin&#8217;s new action, as are EU institutions.<\/strong> &#8220;in cooperation and solidarity with Estonia and other member states,&#8221; High Representative Borrell explains. &#8220;The European Union has been closely monitoring the situation from the beginning&#8221; and now &#8220;expects an explanation from Russia&#8221; on its &#8220;unacceptable&#8221; actions along the border.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Estonia&#8217;s Foreign Ministry denounced the &#8220;unilateral&#8221; removal of light buoys placed on the Narva River to mark the northeastern border with Russia.
