The new far-right group in the European Parliament established today has already become <strong>the third largest by number of members<\/strong>, surpassing on the day of its constitution\u00a0the Liberals of Renew Europe (76) and the European Conservatives and Reformists (78), behind only the Populars (188) and the Social Democrats (136). The political creature of the Hungarian Prime Minister,\u00a0<strong>Viktor Orb\u00e1n<\/strong>, as of today (July 8), can rely on <strong>84 members of 14 national parties<\/strong> from 12 member countries, including Italy. In addition to the elected members of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/07\/01\/orban-kicks-off-right-wing-earthquake-patriots-for-europe-group-in-eu-parliament-ready\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> three founding parties <\/a>&#8211; the 10 Hungarians of Fidesz (first among the non-aligned), the 7 Czechs of ANO 2011 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/06\/21\/andrej-babis-has-left-the-group-renew-europe-loses-the-7-czech-members-of-ano-and-moves-away-from-the-ecr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">formerly of Renew Europe<\/a>), and the 6 Austrians of the Austrian Freedom Party (the first to leave ID) &#8211; there are also the 6 Spaniards of Vox (who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/07\/05\/spains-far-right-vox-says-goodbye-to-giorgia-meloni-and-joins-viktor-orbans-patriots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exited the ECR<\/a> were decisive for\u00a0Patriots for Europe tp overtake the conservative right-wing group), the Hungarian <strong>Gy\u00f6rgy H\u00f6lv\u00e9nyi <\/strong>of the Christian Democratic People&#8217;s Party (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/06\/19\/weber-epp-group-european-parliament\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">formerly of the EPP and close ally of Orb\u00e1n<\/a>) the newly elected so far without parliamentary group membership: the Czechs of Oath and Motorists (2), the Greeks of Voice of Reason (1) and First Latvia (1).<\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-map\" data-src=\"visualisation\/18661422\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">&#8220;<strong>We want to provide a European alternative, not an alternative to Europe<\/strong>,&#8221; the group&#8217;s first vice-chairwoman, Hungarian <strong>Kinga G\u00e1l<\/strong> (Fidesz), claimed at a press conference at the end of the constituent meeting, outlining <strong>a political manifesto hinged on &#8220;defending Judeo-Christian roots&#8221; National Rally MEP,\u00a0<strong>Jean-Paul Garraud,<\/strong>\u00a0told the press, making clear the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/06\/24\/the-far-right-in-the-eu-parliament-in-turmoil-afd-tries-to-lead-a-new-group-with-those-excluded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">project of the new group &#8216;The Sovereignists&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0even further to the right. A formation led by AfD that a host of small and micro-extremist parties excluded by Patriots for Europe could join in these hours: from the pro-Russian and anti-European Bulgarians of <strong>Vazrazhdane<\/strong> (&#8216;Rebirth&#8217;) to the Polish populist ultra-right of <strong>Konfederacja<\/strong>, to the Spanish populist movement <strong>Se Acab\u00f3 La Fiesta <\/strong>(&#8216;The Party is Over&#8217;), the Greek national-conservatives of <strong>Democratic Patriotic Movement &#8211; Victory<\/strong> (Nikh), the Romanian irredentists of <strong>S.O.S. Romania <\/strong>and the Hungarian <strong>Our Fatherland Movement<\/strong>, and the Slovak neo-fascists of\u00a0<strong>Republika<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">\u00a0&#8220;Given the consensus that this group has received at the electoral level, and given the fact that there is interest from so many parties in this project anyway, now let&#8217;s take the calculator for a moment,&#8221; commented League MEP\u00a0<strong>Paolo Borchia<\/strong>, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the constituent meeting of Patriots for Europe: &#8220;<strong>Let&#8217;s start making Patriots more Conservative, you will see that we get a number [<em>162, editor&#8217;s note<\/em>] that is very close to, if not even higher than that of the European People&#8217;s Party<\/strong>.&#8221; Hence the call for having &#8220;patterns that actually reflect what the voters asked for, this is the ABC\u00a0of democracy.&#8221; A speech that also involves the issue of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/06\/28\/von-der-leyens-tour-de-force-in-the-eu-parliament-three-weeks-to-convince-then-the-new-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmation vote<\/a> of the President of the European Commission, <strong>Ursula von der Leyen<\/strong>, at the plenary session of the European Parliament on\u00a0July 18: &#8220;As the League, we have expressed a judgment that is not positive about the work of this Commission.
