Not even 48 hours after the birth of Patriots for Europe, yet another sovereignist far-right group has been formed in the European Parliament: <strong>&#8220;Europe of Sovereign Nations&#8221;, a collector of ultranationalist, eurosceptic, and pro-Russian parties led by the Germans of Alternative f\u00fcr Deutschland<\/strong>. Confirmed on almost all lines the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/07\/09\/its-almost-a-done-deal-for-europe-of-sovereign-nations-the-third-far-right-group-in-the-eu-parliament\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indiscretions<\/a> <\/strong>of the eve: the 14 German MEPs from <strong>AfD<\/strong>, one Czech from <strong>Freedom and Direct Democracy<\/strong>, one Hungarian from <strong>Our Fatherland Movement<\/strong>, the 3 Bulgarians from <strong>Renaissance<\/strong>, 3 Poles from <strong>Konfederacja<\/strong> (3 others, however, remained out), a Slovakian from <strong>Republika<\/strong> (while the other was not allowed in), a Lithuanian from <strong>People&#8217;s Union<\/strong> <strong>and Justice<\/strong>, and <strong>Sarah Knafo<\/strong>, the only remaining MEP from the ultranationalist French right <strong>Reconqu\u00eate<\/strong> after the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/06\/13\/marion-marechal-the-leading-candidate-for-reconquete-at-european-elections-was-expelled-from-the-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expulsion<\/a> <\/strong>of four of the five elected MEPs (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2024\/06\/19\/gruppo-ecr-parlamento-ue-liberali-renew\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remained in ECR<\/a> and ready to found a new party). Even given the consolidation at the ballot box of Germany&#8217;s radical right-wing party (from 9 to 15 elected members), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/06\/24\/the-far-right-in-the-eu-parliament-in-turmoil-afd-tries-to-lead-a-new-group-with-those-excluded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negotiations have intensified<\/a> among the delegations that <strong>almost for certain would be left out of the other groups being formed<\/strong>, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/06\/28\/the-right-wing-that-was-supposed-to-overthrow-the-european-union-is-likely-to-find-itself-even-more-divided-and-quarrelsome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an increasingly fragmented picture<\/a> for the conservative, sovereignist, and nationalist right. <strong>Instead of a single camp of all right-wingers<\/strong> to become the second largest group in the EU Parliament\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/05\/31\/orban-pushes-for-single-meloni-le-pen-camp-the-sovereignist-future-in-europe-in-the-hands-of-two-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as wished <\/a>by Rassemblement National&#8217;s most charismatic figure, <strong>Marine Le Pen<\/strong>, and Hungary&#8217;s Premier, <strong>Viktor Orb\u00e1n<\/strong>\u2014as of today, there are three groups in the EU Parliament: the European Conservatives and Reformists (78 members), the Patriots for Europe (84) and, as of today, Europe of Sovereign Nations (25).<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">&#8220;We have come together because we share the goal of making a significant impact on Europe&#8217;s political future through decisive action and strategic planning,&#8221; reads the press release signed by the two co-chairs. &#8220;We choose this path not because it is easy, but because it is necessary to <strong>realize our shared vision of a strong, united, forward-looking Europe of Homelands.&#8221;<\/strong> According to\u00a0yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seznamzpravy.cz\/clanek\/domaci-politika-okamura-zaklada-s-nemeckou-afd-frakci-v-europarlamentu-vyhlasi-boj-islamizaci-255468\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a> of the leader of the eurosceptic, anti-Islamic, anti-migration Czech populist Spd party, Tomio <strong>Okamura<\/strong>, Europe of Sovereign Nations will be &#8220;against the Green Deal, against migration, against the Islamization of Europe, and we want the powers of Brussels to go back to the national level,&#8221; totally abandoning the idea that the EU can be reformed from within.
