{"id":393262,"date":"2024-09-30T10:37:53","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T08:37:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2024\/09\/30\/volvo-uber-ayvens-auto-pulite-2035\/"},"modified":"2024-10-02T19:09:48","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T17:09:48","slug":"volvo-uber-ayvens-and-47-other-companies-eu-goal-of-100-percent-clean-cars-by-2035-should-not-be-renegotiated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/09\/30\/volvo-uber-ayvens-and-47-other-companies-eu-goal-of-100-percent-clean-cars-by-2035-should-not-be-renegotiated\/","title":{"rendered":"Volvo, Uber, Ayvens and 47 other companies: &#8216;EU goal of 100 percent clean cars by 2035 should not be renegotiated&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels &#8211; <strong>The CEOs and executives of 50 European companies <\/strong>have called on the EU <strong>not to re-open the 2035 target of selling only zero-emission cars and vans. <\/strong>In a public appeal released today, managers from the automotive, clean technology, transportation, and energy sectors- including <strong>Volvo Cars, Uber, and leasing company Ayvens\u00a0&#8211; <\/strong>say the target is &#8220;feasible and necessary.&#8221; Electric vehicle manufacturers<strong> Polestar and Rivian <\/strong>joined the initiative, as did logistics company <strong>Maersk, <\/strong>retailers<strong> Metro and Tesco, <\/strong>and IKEA&#8217;s largest franchisee<strong>, Ingka.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Climate objective points in the right direction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Emissions from cars and vans account for <strong>ove<\/strong>r\u00a0<strong>an eighth<\/strong> (13 percent) of total greenhouse gas emissions in the EU, while CO2 emissions from cars increased by\u00a0<strong>6 percent<\/strong> between 2000 and 2019. <em>&#8220;<\/em>The 2035 target gives <strong>a clear direction<\/strong> that will allow us businesses, alongside all other stakeholders, <strong>to focus on<\/strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><strong>delivering the transformation required<\/strong>,&#8221; the executives say in a statement on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/customer67052g.musvc6.net\/e\/tr?q=A%3dKa9hOV%26n%3dY%268%3dV6eN%26J%3d3dKbA%26S%3d2OvN_BvUx_Mf_tymu_4n_BvUx_LkkLxPuRBThMBWBaO.JtE%26x%3dHwQF88.LyO%26kQ%3dLY6Z%26DN%3d4hLYBgMeBfLb3Z%269u6c2%3d04ewXedwY7ePZ9axd6hyVhBxZdBuA3cudgZM7cgxe9cP7fcQVAaTX9YxY7gP60eT&amp;mupckp=mupAtu4m8OiX0wt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Industryfor2035.org<\/a><\/strong>, the platform created with the collaboration of Transport &amp; Environment and Climate Group. &#8220;It also provides the much-needed investment certainty on the future of the<br \/>\nautomotive industry in Europe,&#8221; they add.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Businesses are asking decision-makers to keep the goals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All of the signatories say they are strongly committed to the EU&#8217;s 2050 climate neutrality goal, and point out that many of them have invested\u00a0<strong>considerable resources to achieve it.<\/strong> &#8220;We\u00a0therefore call on decision-makers to<strong> not reopen<\/strong> the recently adopted<strong> car and van CO2 standards in 2026 and thereby maintain the 100% zero-emission car target in 2035,&#8221;<\/strong> the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p><strong>T&amp;E: &#8220;Don&#8217;t ignore that part of the industry that believes in the transition&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrea Boraschi<\/strong>, director of Transport &amp; Environment Italy, said, &#8220;This appeal is a reminder to\u00a0<strong>consider the motives and commitment of a large part of European industry<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>which believes in the transition<\/strong>, <strong>has invested and is investing to make it possible<\/strong>. Its voice should not be ignored, starting with the Italian government that wants to advance the revision of the regulation to 2025 only to weaken it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Climate Group: &#8220;Businesses need regulatory stability&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dominic Phinn<\/strong>, head of transport at Climate Group, argues: &#8220;To continue to make the transformations needed to\u00a0reduce emissions radically, Europe&#8217;s CEOs and industry executives need\u00a0<strong>regulatory stability.<\/strong> Their message to the Union&#8217;s new policymakers is: &#8216;Don&#8217;t let us down.&#8217; Showing uncertainty about the agreement to phase out endothermic vehicles to 2035 would jeopardize their investments, fleet decarbonization goals, and ultimately the EU&#8217;s climate neutrality goal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Businesses call for an industrial policy that supports the transition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Companies stress that the 2035 zero-emissions target received a democratic mandate from EU governments and MEPs in March 2023.
