But rents are growing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels &#8211; <strong>Home buying in the European Union is increasingly a luxury,<\/strong> with <strong>prices increasing<\/strong> in all countries except <strong>Italy<\/strong>, which saw a 5 percent decrease since 2010 (although rents have not decreased).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The second quarter of 2024<\/strong> brings no good news for the increase in prices\u00a0and rents. <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/web\/products-eurostat-news\/w\/ddn-20241003-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eurostat<\/a>\u00a0data show that\u00a0house prices rose <strong>1.9 percent<\/strong> and <strong>rents by\u00a00.7 percent compared with the first quarter<\/strong>. House prices, on the other hand, have fluctuated more, going up and down in the period under exam.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Between 2010 and the second quarter of 2024,<strong>\u00a0house prices increased by 52 percent and rents by 25 percent.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">Among European countries, <strong>the Baltic states\u00a0posted staggering increases<\/strong>, with Estonia up 232 percent, Lithuania 178 percent, and Latvia 146 percent. Hungary also saw a\u00a0+218 percent soar. The <strong>two exceptions were\u00a0Cyprus<\/strong>, which saw <strong>no increase<\/strong>, and <strong>Italy,<\/strong> the only country with a <strong>slight decrease of 5 percent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">The same Italian success does not apply <strong>to rents<\/strong>, with Italy joining 25 of the 27 countries that saw increases.\u00a0<strong>Estonia still leads with an increase of more than 200 percent<\/strong>, followed by Lithuania (+178 percent), Ireland, and Hungary, up\u00a0just over 100 percent.
