Brussels\u00a0– An “unprecedented”<\/strong> cyber attack: With these words, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov<\/strong>, commented on the blackout of the state broadcaster Vgtrk<\/strong> that occurred on Monday (Oct. 7),\u00a0Vladimir Putin<\/strong>‘s birthday.\u00a0According<\/span>\u00a0to Moscow reports, the origin is reportedly Ukrainian<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the early morning hours, the Russian company’s internal online and broadcast services<\/strong>\u2014defined by Peskov himself as a “critical infrastructure facility<\/strong>“\u2014have failed<\/strong> for several hours, including streaming of TV and radio channels Russia-1 and Russia-24. Vgtrk\u00a0communicated late this morning that “everything is functioning normally” and “no significant damage has been caused to operations.”<\/p>\n

“Specialists” are working to determine the\u00a0perpetrators’ identities<\/strong>\u00a0and “eliminate the consequences of this malicious interference.” <\/strong>Still, the\u00a0Gazeta.ru website reported that the\u00a0hacker group<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Sudo rm-Rf<\/em><\/strong>, which is linked to Ukraine<\/strong>, was behind the attack.<\/p>\n

For now, Kyiv has not officially claimed authorship of the attack<\/strong>, which\u00a0occurred on the\u00a0Russian president’s 72nd birthday<\/strong><\/span>.
