{"id":402035,"date":"2024-11-04T14:59:15","date_gmt":"2024-11-04T13:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2024\/11\/04\/bei-cdp-accordo-per-economia-italiana\/"},"modified":"2024-11-07T14:58:39","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T13:58:39","slug":"eib-and-cassa-depositi-e-prestiti-team-up-to-support-the-italian-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/11\/04\/eib-and-cassa-depositi-e-prestiti-team-up-to-support-the-italian-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"EIB and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti team up to support the Italian economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels &#8211; The <strong>European Investment Bank (EIB)\u00a0<\/strong>signed a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eib.org\/en\/press\/all\/2024-431-new-eib-cdp-agreement-to-provide-eur1-billion-in-support-for-public-sector?lang=it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new agreement<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>with Italy&#8217;s <strong>Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP)<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>to stimulate the country&#8217;s economy<\/strong> through <strong>green initiatives by public administrations<\/strong>, especially in central and southern Italy.<\/p>\n<p>According to the agreement, the EIB will <strong>guarantee loans totaling up to\u00a0500 million to CDP<\/strong>, making it possible for CDP to make available to beneficiaries <strong>up\u00a0to double this amount over\u00a0the next five years<\/strong>. Concretely, there is talk of an\u00a0<strong>amount that would reach one billion<\/strong> and could allow\u00a0public administrations to focus on <strong>projects related to green transition, social cohesion, and development in the South<\/strong>. One focus is on regions in central and southern Italy, &#8220;including those affected by the 2016 earthquake.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Connected to the ecological transition is the need to invest in\u00a0<strong>climate change mitigation\u00a0<\/strong>(for which the European Commission recently provided <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/10\/09\/brussels-e1-billion-in-state-aid-approved-for-farmers-affected-by-floods-in-emilia-romagna-tuscany-and-marche\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aid<\/a>\u00a0in response to its effects and disasters in Italy) and to <strong>progress in resilience in the face of extreme weather events<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The new initiative strengthens collaboration between institutions<\/strong>, already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdp.it\/sitointernet\/page\/it\/cdp_e_bei_rafforzano_la_collaborazione_a_sostegno_delleconomia_italiana?contentId=CSA39462\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">established in 2022<\/a>, aiming to promote economic growth and accelerate the green transition in public administrations (PA). Both are goals of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, an Italian institution that focuses on the country&#8217;s industrial and infrastructure development in cooperation with local governments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The EIB has been working in Italy since 1959<\/strong>, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eib.org\/en\/projects\/country\/italy?lang=it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investments that in 2023<\/a> focused heavily on the green transition and projects related to urban sustainability. As evidence of the EIB&#8217;s commitment to the issue, it recently concluded an agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/10\/10\/eib-and-intesa-sanpaolo-team-up-for-european-wind-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intesa Sanpaolo for wind energy<\/a> and investment in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/10\/18\/eib-invests-in-graphene-20-million-to-support-italian-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">graphene<\/a> production in Italy, which has significant potential for\u00a0decarbonization.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>500 million in guarantees in the new agreement between the two institutions.
