At the <strong>inauguration ceremony<\/strong>, which historically takes place on Capitol Hill, <strong>in defiance of tradition<\/strong> several international leaders and dignitaries have been invited, including from the European Union.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Between <strong>official confirmations and denials<\/strong>, the final list of who will participate is not yet complete, but it is clear that (with few exceptions) the only political area to be widely represented will be that ranging <strong>from the right to the far right<\/strong>.\u00a0<span style=\"text-align: inherit; color: var(--body-color); font-family: var(--body-font-family); font-weight: var(--body-font-weight);\">This leaves little doubt about the\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"text-align: inherit; font-family: var(--body-font-family);\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/01\/17\/tusk-presents-polish-semester-priorities-in-strasbourg-but-trump-musk-couple-holds-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trajectory the second presidency will take<\/a><span style=\"text-align: inherit; color: var(--body-color); font-family: var(--body-font-family); font-weight: var(--body-font-weight);\">\u00a0for the undisputed master of the Republican Party.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id='meloni-and-the-conservatives'  id=\"boomdevs_1\">Meloni and the Conservatives<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Of the heads of state and government currently sitting on the European Council, Italian Prime Minister <strong>Giorgia Meloni<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/news\/meloni-only-eu-leader-invited-to-trumps-inauguration\/?utm_source=Euractiv&amp;utm_campaign=9cb63ccf75-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2024_03_15_11_14_COPY_14&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_-c120410112-116740336\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seems to be<\/a> the only one to <strong>receive an official invitation<\/strong> from the New York tycoon. This is not surprising, given the efforts that the former president of the <strong>European Conservative (ECR)<\/strong> party has made in recent months in crediting herself in Washington as <strong>one of the points of reference for the new administration<\/strong> on the Old Continent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">From <strong>personal contacts with Trump<\/strong> (who has called her &#8220;a fantastic woman&#8221;) to those with the owner of X, SpaceX and Tesla, <strong>Elon Musk<\/strong> (who will play a key role in the next U.S. cabinet), and from the Abedini-Sala affair to the &#8220;Starlink affair,&#8221; the leader of Fratelli d&#8217;Italia is considered <strong>politically close to the next White House tenant<\/strong>. After there had been\u00a0<strong>conflicting news<\/strong> on the subject for a few days, the spokesman for the Magyar premier,\u00a0<strong>Zolt\u00e1n Kov\u00e1cs<\/strong>, wanted to &#8220;close the circus&#8221; by remarking the day before yesterday (Jan. 15) that &#8220;<strong>no Hungarian government official<\/strong>\u2014or any foreign leader\u2014<strong>has received an &#8216;official&#8217;<\/strong> invitation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-o-mail-quote-node=\"1\" data-o-mail-quote=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Shutting down the circus: no Hungarian government official\u2014or any foreign leader\u2014received an &#8220;official&#8221; invitation.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. presidential inauguration is traditionally an event celebrating the peaceful transfer of power, not a gathering for foreign dignitaries. Anyone\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Zoltan Kovacs (@zoltanspox) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zoltanspox\/status\/1879590468649976142?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">January 15, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to what\u00a0<i>La Presse<\/i> reports, a delegation for the Patriots will travel to Washington consisting of President <strong>Santiago Abascal<\/strong> (leader of the Spanish Vox party) and a handful of MEPs (the group in the EU Parliament is called <strong>Patriots for Europe<\/strong>, abbreviated to PfE): <strong>Kinga G\u00e1l<\/strong> (Hungarian from Fidesz), <strong>Klara Dostalova<\/strong> (elected in the Czech Republic with Ano 2011) and <strong>Hermann Tertsch<\/strong> (Vox), as well as <strong>Paolo Borchia<\/strong> (head of the Lega delegation), <strong>Jorge Mart\u00edn Fr\u00edas<\/strong> (Vox) and <strong>Filip Turek<\/strong> (leader of the Czech PaM party). According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/donald-trump-inauguration-far-right-populists-giorgia-meloni-javier-milei\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Politico<\/i><\/a>, the leader of the Belgian Vlaams Belang party <strong>Tom Van Grieken<\/strong> is also expected to participate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Continuing with European right-wingers, other notable invitees include the head of Reform Uk and noble father of Brexit, <strong>Nigel Farage<\/strong>, the leader of Reconqu\u00eate (a transalpine party even further to the right than the Rassemblement national) <strong>\u00c9ric Zemmour<\/strong> and the co-chair of Germany&#8217;s ultra-right AfD, <strong>Tino Chrupalla<\/strong>. For the same political family as the latter two, MEP <strong>Sarah Knafo<\/strong>, deputy group leader of the <strong>Europe of Sovereign Nations (Esn)<\/strong> in Strasbourg in the Reconqu\u00eate quota, should also attend the inauguration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As for Chrupalla, the invitation was reportedly originally addressed to her counterpart <strong>Alice Weidel<\/strong>, recently <strong>incensed by Musk himself<\/strong> in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2025\/01\/10\/musk-afd-germania-livestream-x-weidel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">live flop on\u00a0X<\/a>, who, however, declined, citing <strong>commitments related to campaigning at home<\/strong> (she was nominated this week as a candidate for chancellor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/01\/13\/german-election-afd-nominates-alice-weidel-as-chancellor-candidate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the first in history<\/a> of the post-Nazi party), for the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/12\/16\/challenge-to-chancellor-scholz-in-germany-as-expected-now-its-straight-to-early-elections-on-feb-23\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0vote on Feb. 23<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 id='the-international-guests'  id=\"boomdevs_3\">The international guests<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Contrary to Kov\u00e1cs&#8217; claims, however, many\u00a0<strong>foreign heads of state and government were invited<\/strong>\u00a0in defiance of the tradition that would have international guests <strong>of no higher rank than diplomats and ambassadors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Argentinean President <strong>Javier Milei<\/strong> has long since confirmed his attendance, while former Brazilian President <strong>Jair Bolsonaro<\/strong> could not as, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2024\/nov\/21\/jair-bolsonaro-charged-coup-plot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">finding himself under investigation<\/a> for his alleged role in the <strong>attempted coup of January 2023<\/strong> (an episode that closely resembled the <strong>assault on the Capitol by pro-Trump<\/strong> ultras two href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/jan\/17\/trump-inauguration-china-vice-president-xi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will send in his stead<\/a> in Washington his deputy <strong>Han Zheng<\/strong>: not exactly radical right-wing leadership, it will be nimbly noted, but one need only consider the <strong>strategic relevance of Washington-Beijing relations<\/strong> to
