In comparison,\u00a0France saw a sharp increase in applications for protection from <strong>Ukrainians<\/strong> (+90 percent). Of course, this figure varies significantly from one member state to another: the <strong>highest ratio<\/strong> of asylum seekers to population was in <strong>Cyprus\u00a0<\/strong>(7.2 applications per 1,000 inhabitants), <strong>Greece<\/strong> (6.6 applications), and <b>Ireland <\/b>and <strong>Spain<\/strong> (both with 3.4 applications). In <strong>Italy,<\/strong> this figure stands at <strong>0.2 applications per thousand inhabitants<\/strong>, not precisely the numbers showing an &#8220;ethnic replacement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Unaccompanied minors totaled\u00a036,300,<\/strong> of whom 13,300 applied in <strong>Germany<\/strong> (37 percent of the total number of unaccompanied minors), 4,300 in <strong>The Netherlands<\/strong> (12 percent), and 4,000 in <b>Greece (12 percent). In addition to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, heads of state or government from Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Sweden attended the meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">The EU leader outlined the crackdown on repatriations\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/03\/11\/brussels-unveils-crackdown-on-returns-and-proposes-third-country-detention-hubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presented<\/a> to the heads of state and government\u00a0on March 11.
