It is the <strong>third time in three years<\/strong> that Portuguese\u00a0citizens will go to the polls before the natural expiration of the legislature.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The head of state&#8217;s decision was inevitable after the <strong>collapse of the minority government<\/strong> led by <strong>Lu\u00eds Montenegro<\/strong>, which lasted less than a year. On\u00a0March 11, the center-right executive did not survive\u00a0a vote of confidence held\u00a0in the House by the premier seeking to <strong>contain\u00a0the scandal<\/strong> in which he was involved regarding a <strong>consulting firm\u00a0linked to him<\/strong>, Spinumviva.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The road to early polls is thus open for the Iberian country, from which, however, results are expected <a href=\"https:\/\/sondagens.rr.pt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">substantially in line<\/a> with those of last year: Montenegro&#8217;s <strong>Democratic Alliance (AD)<\/strong> remains in the lead with <strong>just under 31 percent<\/strong> of the consensus, followed\u00a0by the <strong>PS<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>socialists (28.4 percent),<\/strong> and\u00a0the nationalist ultra-right of <strong><i>Chega<\/i> in third place<\/strong> (almost at 17 percent).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The head of state had no other choice after Lu\u00eds Montenegro&#8217;s government lost a vote of confidence earlier this month.
