ECB: &#8220;Returning to benchmark target&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels &#8211; <strong>In April, inflation was at the same level as in March for the Eurozone.<\/strong>\u00a0According to Eurostat&#8217;s flash estimate, the cost of living should\u00a0remain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/04\/01\/eurozone-march-inflation-drops-to-2-2-percent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>stable at\u00a02.2 percent<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0This situation was made possible by the trend in energy (-3.5 percent, compared to -1 percent in March) and non-energy industrial goods (0.6 percent, stable compared to March). On the other hand, the cost for &#8216;services&#8217;\u00a0increased (3.9 percent, up from 3.5 percent in March), and for food and tobacco (3 percent, up from 2.9 percent in March).\u00a0<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">\u200b<\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/inflazione-aprile-25.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-425421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/inflazione-aprile-25.png\" width=\"340\" height=\"531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/inflazione-aprile-25.png 340w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/inflazione-aprile-25-192x300.png 192w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 340px) 100vw, 340px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Spain and Italy <\/strong>mirrored the general trend among the major eurozone economies, <strong>with unchanged\u00a0indices from March<\/strong> (2.2 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively). At the same time, inflation in Germany and France declined by 0.1 percentage points (to 2.3 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively). In sharp contrast were Latvia and the Netherlands, where inflation increased by 0.6 and 0.7 percentage points, respectively, with the cost-of-living rate double the European Central Bank&#8217;s benchmark target.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final estimates are due on\u00a0May 19, but in the meantime, the European Statistical Office\u00a0confirms the trend observed by the European Central Bank<\/strong>, which, today (May 2), coinciding with Eurostat&#8217;s preliminary inflation data,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecb.europa.eu\/press\/economic-bulletin\/html\/eb202503.en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> published its Economic Bulletin<\/a>.\u00a0&#8220;Most measures of underlying inflation are pointing to a sustained return of inflation to the ECB\u2019s 2 percent\u00a0medium-term target,<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&#8221; the ECB wrote in its bulletin.\u00a0Moreover, the Eurotower paper continues, &#8220;M<strong>ost measures of longer-term inflation expectations continued to stand at around 2%, which supports the sustainable return of inflation to our target.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Preliminary Eurostat data released along with the European Central Bank&#8217;s Economic Bulletin.
