However, new technologies\u00a0are beginning to pose a problem. <strong>In Europe, many people can no longer tell the difference between a\u00a0work of art that is original &#8212; thus human &#8212; and one produced with artificial intelligence.<\/strong>\u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/eurobarometer\/surveys\/detail\/3364\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest Eurobarometer survey<\/a>, devoted to cultural and artistic activities and how Europeans engage with culture, highlights the problem.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&#8220;The rapid pace at which generative artificial intelligence has infiltrated our societies is reflected by the survey,&#8221; the authors acknowledge in the paper. <strong>Less than half of Europeans familiar with works of art (48 percent) admit they can tell the difference between visual,\u00a0<\/strong>musical, and literary artifacts produced by humans and those made through machines and programs. A figure that stops at even lower rates in other countries, three, including Italy (46 percent).<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/cultura-ai.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-426214\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/cultura-ai-1024x559.png\" width=\"1024\" height=\"559\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/cultura-ai-1024x559.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/cultura-ai-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/cultura-ai-768x420.png 768w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/cultura-ai-750x410.png 750w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/cultura-ai.png 1069w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In total, there are 12 EU member states in which less than half of the population surveyed admit to being able to distinguish between art that is the result of human endeavor and\u00a0artificial art (Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, France, Sweden, Bulgaria, Denmark, Portugal, and Greece). Practically,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/09\/05\/council-of-europe-first-artificial-intelligence-treaty-drafted-von-der-leyen-eu-law-goes-global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the advent and spread of artificial intelligence<\/a>, even in the way of producing art and culture, has become a problem for half of the European Union.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The Eurobarometer points out that the results reveal different perceptions and attitudes toward the role of Artificial Intelligence in art and culture in the European Union.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><strong>Although &#8220;a significant portion of the population generally prefers human-made content (81 percent of Europeans, 76 percent of Italians), the usage of generative AI tools concerns just under a third of Europeans<\/strong>,&#8221; with only\u00a031 percent agreeing. An additional 42 percent of Europeans\u00a0think it could be a concern.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Man or machine?
