The two presidents have pointed to <strong>Turkey<\/strong> as the place for <strong>potential talks, <\/strong>which <strong>Donald Trump <\/strong>(who also announced today that he<b> might attend the meeting <\/b>\u2018if I consider it important for reaching an agreement\u2019)\u00a0is also pushing strongly. However,\u00a0for now, diplomacy has only lined up <strong>a series of failed attempts,<\/strong> and no truce\u00a0in the fighting is on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The bandwagon of\u00a0<strong>international diplomacy<\/strong> seemed to get back on track over the past weekend regarding\u00a0the <strong>Ukraine war<\/strong>. A glimmer of cautious optimism\u00a0seemed to pervade the European chancelleries after, at the end of a <strong>visit to Kyiv<\/strong> on Saturday (May 10), the leaders of <strong>France<\/strong>, <strong>Germany<\/strong>, <strong>Poland,<\/strong> and the\u00a0<strong>United Kingdom<\/strong> managed to bring even the US president to their side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The proposal put on the table by <strong>Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, Donald Tusk<\/strong>, and <strong>Keir Starmer<\/strong> &#8211; in agreement with <strong>Volodymyr Zelensky<\/strong> &#8211; was that of an <strong>unconditional 30-day ceasefire<\/strong> starting today (May 12) as a demonstration of <strong>good faith<\/strong> on the part of <strong>Vladimir Putin <\/strong>concerning the start of substantive negotiations on a political solution to the conflict. Yet, there has been no concrete progress.
