According to the judges, the allegations of foreign interference were &#8216;<strong>groundless<\/strong>&#8216;. This morning&#8217;s (May 22) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccr.ro\/comunicat-de-presa-22-mai-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decision<\/a> is final, while the motivations will be published in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>Simion, a Eurosceptic, and avowedly pro-Trump leader, did not accept the court&#8217;s verdict: &#8220;The Constitutional Court has continued the <strong>state coup<\/strong> by rejecting our appeal,&#8221; he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/georgesimion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> on his social channels shortly after the ruling.\u00a0The Alliance for the Union of Romanians leader had denounced alleged <strong>interference<\/strong> from France and Moldova, speaking of &#8220;an orchestrated maneuver to manipulate the institutions and direct the vote.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Permanent Electoral Authority had already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roaep.ro\/prezentare\/relatii_externe\/articol-relatii-externe-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">certified<\/a> the <strong>regularity<\/strong> of the electoral process, describing it as &#8220;correct, transparent, and integral&#8221;, stigmatizing the spreading of false information and accusing those disseminating\u00a0it of wanting to &#8220;undermine citizens&#8217; trust in state\u00a0institutions.&#8221; The Romanian Constitutional Court had also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/03\/06\/romanian-elections-european-court-rejects-georgescus-appeal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rejected<\/a>, on March 6, the appeal lodged by <strong>C\u0103lin Georgescu<\/strong>, the former pro-Russian candidate excluded from the runoff, challenging the annulment of the first round of elections. However,\u00a0the judges had declared his allegations of procedural violations by the State unfounded.<\/p>\n<p>President-elect Nicu\u0219or Dan, who obtained 53.6 percent of the vote against Simion&#8217;s 46.4 percent,\u00a0will be officially proclaimed head of state. In an initial statement, he promised stability and <strong>Euro-Atlantic continuity. &#8220;<\/strong>Romania will remain firmly anchored in NATO, the European Union, and the strategic partnership with the United States.&#8221; Dan will now face the delicate phase of forming a new executive and the imperative of containing the massive public deficit. The shadow of the ultra-right, however, is not fading.
