The <strong>business climate<\/strong> of the German automotive industry deteriorated again in May 2025 in the wake of global uncertainties. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifo.de\/en\/facts\/2025-06-03\/business-climate-german-automotive-industry-deteriorates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According <\/a>to the <strong>Ifo<\/strong> Economic Institute, the Business climate index for the industry fell to <strong>-31.8 points,<\/strong> compared to -30.7 recorded in April). &#8220;The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/05\/29\/us-federal-court-declares-tariffs-illegitimate-blocking-washingtons-trade-weapon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confusion around US duties<\/a> is creating difficulties for the automotive industry in Germany,&#8221; said <strong>Anita W\u00f6lfl<\/strong>, an Ifo expert on the sector.<\/p>\n<p>The overall worsening was mainly due to <strong>considerably more pessimistic expectations<\/strong> for the coming months, with the indicator falling from -25.2 to <strong>-28.3 points<\/strong>. It stood at <strong>-0.8 points<\/strong> in May, an improvement from -11.6 in the previous month, but still far from reassuring.<\/p>\n<p>The picture that emerges is one of a <strong>sector under pressure<\/strong>, caught between weak domestic demand and unstable external markets.
