A few hours after Donald Trump announced a <strong>ceasefire<\/strong>, <em>Iran and<\/em> <strong>Israel accused each other of violating the truce<\/strong>. As the events continued to unfold, the White House occupant left for the <strong>NATO summit in The Hague<\/strong> visibly altered, rebuking the leaderships of both countries and claiming that <strong>the agreement was still in place<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a whirlwind of events that continue to unfold at an accelerated pace, in the last few hours, the <strong>conflict between Israel and Iran appeared to be on the verge of escalating<\/strong>, involving the United States as well, then appearing to be\u00a0<strong>resolved with an unexpected ceasefire<\/strong> between the two regional powers, and finally <strong>reigniting due to alleged violations of the newly agreed truce<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It was just past midnight today (24 June) when <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> triumphantly proclaimed on his social platform, <i>Truth<\/i>, that <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>Jewish State<\/strong> and the Islamic Republic had reached an understanding on a ceasefire. &#8220;Assuming that everything works as it should, and it will,&#8221; the <em>tycoon<\/em> wrote, &#8220;<strong>I would like to congratulate both countries<\/strong>, Israel and Iran, for demonstrating the strength, courage, and intelligence necessary&#8221; to end what he suggested to\u00a0dub &#8220;the <strong>12-Day War<\/strong>&#8220;. The latter, he noted, was &#8220;a <strong>war that could have lasted for years and destroyed the entire Middle East.&#8221; <\/strong>However,\u00a0he said, this &#8220;has not happened and will never happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">From the outset, there had been\u00a0<strong>misunderstandings about the time horizon of the truce<\/strong>, which the tycoon reportedly described as a 24-hour commitment and which, again, according to Trump, would <strong>officially come into effect around 7 am this morning. I<\/strong>n the following hours, both sides had confirmed that they were willing to <strong>observe a pause in hostilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">An essential role in reaching the agreement was played by<strong> Qatar, <\/strong>where<strong> last night Iran\u2019s retaliation for the US involvement in the conflict, through the bombing of the nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/06\/23\/eu-tries-to-keep-the-dialogue-with-iran-open-after-the-us-strike-but-theres-very-little-room-to-maneuver\/\">22 June,<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/06\/23\/middle-east-as-brussels-calls-for-restraint-iran-strikes-us-bases-in-response-to-washingtons-attack-on-its-nuclear-sites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">materialized<\/a>. <\/strong>In a largely symbolic action (and one that had been announced to the White House), the<strong> ayatollahs struck the US base at Al Udeid, near Doha.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">However, at around 9:30 am today, <strong>Israel denounced an Iranian ceasefire violation<\/strong>, claiming that missiles had reached its territory, an <strong>accusation rejected by the Islamic Republic<\/strong>. The Europeans had attempted to engage the Islamic Republic through <strong>talks in\u00a0Geneva on its nuclear program <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/06\/20\/geneva-european-diplomacy-tries-to-save-the-iran-nuclear-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on 20 June<\/a><\/strong>. The president of the EU executive, <strong>Ursula von der Leyen<\/strong>, welcomed the <strong>announcement of the ceasefire<\/strong> as &#8220;an <strong>important step towards restoring stability in a tense region,<\/strong>&#8221; stressing that &#8220;this must be our collective priority.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Regarding the latest developments, the Commission&#8217;s spokespersons reiterate that &#8220;the reported <strong>missile firing<\/strong> underscores how fragile this ceasefire can be.&#8221; They\u00a0renewed their call for &#8220;all parties to exercise the utmost restraint.&#8221; &#8220;<strong>We urge Iran to engage seriously in a credible diplomatic process<\/strong> because the <strong>negotiating table remains the only viable path<\/strong>,&#8221; they continue from the Berlaymont.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Taking up the message delivered yesterday by High Representative <strong>Kaja Kallas<\/strong>, the spokespersons reiterated that &#8220;we are in dialogue with all parties because <strong>escalation benefits no one<\/strong>&#8221; and that &#8220;<strong>everyone is concerned about the same thing, namely the ripple effect<\/strong>&#8221; that such actions can have throughout the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US President said he had brokered a truce agreement between Tel Aviv and Tehran, which should have come into force this morning.
