Brussels – Carola Rackete (The Left, Germany), a well-known human rights and climate change activist, has decided to leave her role as an MEP after one year in office.<\/span> <\/p>\n

The statement<\/a> of the Left MEP group explains that the “leading critic of the EU\u2019s deadly migration policy and champion of climate action will be dearly missed by The Left in the European Parliament.” The press release adds: “As an ecologist, climate activist and ship\u2019s captain, Carola is a greatly admired figure of The Left as a person of conviction who has always led by example. Having spent years saving lives at sea, she was determined to shine a spotlight on the intricately linked issues of climate change, global justice, and the detrimental impact of EU migration policies.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Elected to Parliament in the 2024 elections for the German party Die Linke, “she has continued to fight in the ENVI (Committee on the Environment, Climate and Food Safety), ECON(Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs) and AGRI (Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development) committees, where she championed the cause of climate action and consistently stood up for those most affected by the impacts of climate inaction.”<\/span><\/p>\n

 On Instagram,<\/a> Rakete explains: “For me, relinquishing the mandate also means that I can again focus on action against those responsible for the climate crisis.” And she also announces the name of her successor, Martin G\u00fcnther.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
