When it comes to e-commerce and the management of online purchases, for the European Parliament, the watchword is &#8220;security&#8221; in the broadest sense of the term. Thus, in the legislative process for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2025\/02\/05\/e-commerce-ue-esenzione-dazi-sotto-150-e\/https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/02\/05\/e-commerce-eu-seeks-to-end-duty-exemption-on-products-under-150-euros-for-consumer-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the e-commerce reform,<\/a> the Parliament&nbsp;opts for a closure of the single market to substandard goods from non-EU e-shops.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By a large majority (619 votes in favour, 26 against, and 46 abstentions), the&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">European Parliament approved a resolution calling for&nbsp;<strong>third-country sellers<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>to establish<\/strong><\/span><strong>&nbsp;warehouses within the EU from which they deliver to customers<\/strong>. In this way, shipments would be checked en bloc and would be much easier than checking individual parcels at customs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><strong>The text approved<\/strong><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><strong>&nbsp;supports, in principle, the Commission&#8217;s proposal to introduce a handling fee of \u20ac2 per parcel<\/strong> from outside the EU,<a href=\"https:\/\/digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu\/en\/library\/e-commerce-communication-comprehensive-eu-toolbox-safe-and-sustainable-e-commerce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&nbsp;as indicated in the communication on e-commerce<\/a><\/span>.<\/span>&nbsp;However, MEPs ask the Commission to check that this amount is proportionate, complies with the rules of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and is not passed on to European consumers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_417983\" style=\"width: 1344px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Imagoeconomica_1992019.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-417983\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Imagoeconomica_1992019.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1344\" height=\"896\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Imagoeconomica_1992019.jpg 1344w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Imagoeconomica_1992019-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Imagoeconomica_1992019-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Imagoeconomica_1992019-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Imagoeconomica_1992019-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Imagoeconomica_1992019-1140x760.jpg 1140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1344px) 100vw, 1344px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-417983\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">E-commerce and online shopping [photo: imagoeconomica]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\"><strong>Parliament also supports the Commission in its proposal to remove the current exemption from customs duties for goods with a value of less than \u20ac150<\/strong>. The reason for this position is that, because of this exemption, 65 per cent of parcels entering the EU are <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/qanda_23_2644\" target=\"_blank\">deliberately underestimated<\/a>.
