{"id":433266,"date":"2025-07-25T13:15:38","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T11:15:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2025\/07\/25\/piu-accesso-a-frutta-e-pomodori-da-chisinau-lue-aggiorna-laccordo-di-libero-scambio-con-moldova\/"},"modified":"2025-07-25T14:07:05","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T12:07:05","slug":"more-access-for-fruit-and-tomatoes-from-chisinau-eu-updates-free-trade-agreement-with-moldova","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/07\/25\/more-access-for-fruit-and-tomatoes-from-chisinau-eu-updates-free-trade-agreement-with-moldova\/","title":{"rendered":"More access for fruit and tomatoes from Chi\u0219in\u0103u: EU updates free trade agreement with Moldova"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels &#8211; A small step towards the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European single market: Brussels and Chi\u0219in\u0103u have revised and updated the trade conditions of the EU-Moldova <b>Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA)<\/b>, removing some of the remaining barriers in the already deepened relationship between the bloc and the former Soviet republic, now in the<a href=\"http:\/\/Deep%20and%20Comprehensive%20Free%20Trade%20Area%20(DCFTA),%20re\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> path<\/a> for EU accession.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;The current EU-Moldova Association Agreement, signed in 2014, already provided for duty-free access for most exports from Chi\u0219in\u0103u. From July 25, 2022, up to now, Moldova has also benefited from temporary assistance measures implemented by the EU to mitigate the effects of the war in Ukraine, which disrupted several of the country&#8217;s traditional export routes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;With <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_25_1904\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the agreement<\/a> reached last night (July 24), more Moldovan fruit and vegetables will travel towards Brussels, while pork, poultry, milk, and butter produced in the member states will move in the opposite direction. Faced with the increase in the value of Moldovan exports to the EU, <strong>from EUR 1.8 billion in 2021 to EUR 2.2 billion in 2024<\/strong> &#8211; also with a view to Chi\u0219in\u0103u&#8217;s gradual distancing from Moscow -the EU agreed to improve access to the single market for Moldovan agricultural products that have not yet been liberalized.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;In particular, the EU will increase tariff quotas, which allow the import of a predetermined quantity of a product at a lower duty than the normal rate for that product, for <strong>plums, table grapes, apples, and cherries<\/strong>. <strong>Grape juice, tomatoes, and garlic will instead be duty-free<\/strong>. Conversely, Chi\u0219in\u0103u will increase quotas for European pork and poultry and offer new ones for frozen boneless meat, milk, and butter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The EU Trade Commissioner, <strong>Maro\u0161 \u0160ef\u010dovi\u010d<\/strong>, assured that it is a &#8220;fair and balanced&#8221; agreement, which &#8220;<strong>safeguards the interests of EU farmers, <\/strong>providing much-needed stability and predictability in these uncertain times<strong><\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The new access to the single market for Moldovan products is, in fact, conditional on <strong>Chi\u0219in\u0103u&#8217;s gradual alignment with the production standards in force in the EU<\/strong>, particularly regarding the use of pesticides.
