Even <strong>Slovakia<\/strong> (which<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/07\/18\/slovakia-backs-down-eu-adopts-18th-sanctions-package-against-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has long leveraged<\/a> the issue of its <strong>energy security<\/strong> by putting its foot down on <strong>sanctions against the Kremlin<\/strong>) has seen its oil supply cut off as a consequence of the Ukrainian attacks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\">&#8220;Ukraine has once again attacked the pipeline to Hungary, cutting off supplies. This latest <strong>attack on our energy security is outrageous and unacceptable<\/strong>!&#8221; the head of Budapest&#8217;s diplomacy complained in a post on X, accusing Kyiv and Brussels of wanting to &#8220;<strong>drag Hungary into war.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\">&nbsp;&#8220;<strong>This is not our war<\/strong>,&#8221; Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 reiterated, seasoning&nbsp;it with a far from subtle&nbsp;threat: &#8220;A reminder to Ukrainian decision-makers: <strong>electricity from Hungary plays a key role in powering your country<\/strong>&#8230;,&#8221; he added. However, the symbolism for Ukraine would be ominous. It was there, in 1994, that Kyiv and Moscow signed the <em>memorandum<\/em> by which the former Soviet republic <strong>handed over<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>its nuclear warheads<\/strong> to Russia in return for a promise that the <strong>Federation would respect its territorial integrity<\/strong>. Ten years later &#8211; without London and Washington providing the <strong>security guarantees<\/strong> required by the treaty &#8211; the <strong>Kremlin annexed Crimea<\/strong> and supported the uprising of pro-Russian <strong>separatists in the Donbas<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\">Wherever it takes place, however, the Trump-Putin-Zelensky meeting should follow a <strong>face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the two belligerent countries<\/strong>, on which diplomats halfway around the world are working. One of the possible locations for the bilateral meeting could be <strong>Geneva<\/strong>, Switzerland, as suggested by France and Italy.
