And again, Serbian students and pro-Trump influencers. <strong>The list of nominees for the European Parliament&#8217;s Sakharov Prize<\/strong> <strong>2025<\/strong> for Freedom of Thought to be awarded in December has been <strong>defined<\/strong>. All the main groups have withdrawn their reservations, and from the indications, the <strong>convergence between&nbsp;<\/strong><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><strong>the popular (EPP) and conservative (ECR) groups on the name of Andrzej Poczobut<\/strong>, <strong>a Polish-Belarusian journalist<\/strong>, human rights activist,<\/span>&nbsp;and political prisoner in Belarus, stands out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A correspondent for the Polish daily <em>Gazeta Wyborcza<\/em> and a long-standing voice critical of Alexsandr Lukashenko&#8217;s government, Poczobut has been arrested on several occasions since 2011 and in the years that followed. The latest arrest, which took place in 2021, continues today. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/10\/24\/sakharov-prize-2024-to-the-venezuelan-opposition-nominated-by-the-epp-ecr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EPP and ECR confirm the alliance established in the last edition<\/a> of the Sakharov Prize, with an initiative that, if supported by the rest of the political forces, would see the award (a plaque and a cheque for \u20ac50,000) going to the Belarusian opposition for the second time, after the 2020 one.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the second time, however, the <strong>Socialists (S&amp;D)<\/strong> chose civil society actors from <strong>Palestine<\/strong>. Last year, <span lang=\"en-IT\"><em>Women Wage Peace<\/em> and <em>Women of the Sun<\/em>, the Israeli and Palestinian women&#8217;s organisations working for peace, were nominated. <\/span>Journalists and humanitarian workers in conflict zones, represented by the&nbsp;<strong>Palestinian Press Association<\/strong>, the <strong>Palestinian Red Crescent<\/strong> and the <strong>United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA)<\/strong>, have been nominated for the 2025 edition of the EU Parliament prize.&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">The MEPs of the&nbsp;<strong>Left<\/strong>&nbsp;group, who propose the&nbsp;<strong>Palestinian journalists<\/strong>&nbsp;Hamza and Wael Al-Dahdouh, Plestia Alaqad, Shireen Abu Akleh, and<strong>&nbsp;the Ain Media<\/strong>&nbsp;group (in honour of Yasser Murtaja and Roshdi Sarraj), associate somehow.<\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Liberals (<strong>Renew Europe,<\/strong> RE) instead propose <strong>Serbian students<\/strong> who &#8220;organise peaceful demonstrations for a free and democratic Serbia,&#8221; and who<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/01\/28\/student-protests-in-serbia-lead-to-resignation-of-prime-minister-vucevic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> led Prime Minister Milo\u0161 Vu\u010devi\u0107 to resign <\/a><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/01\/28\/student-protests-in-serbia-lead-to-resignation-of-prime-minister-vucevic\/\">with their protests<\/a>. <strong>The Greens<\/strong> instead chose as candidates the <strong>organisers of the Budapest Pride<\/strong>, who &#8220;have managed to organise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/06\/27\/lgbtq-rights-all-eyes-on-budapest-pride\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Budapest Pride<\/a> year after year despite threats and intimidation from the Orb\u00e1n government.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the Patriots for Europe (<strong>PfE<\/strong>), the Sakharov Prize 2025 should go to the <strong>French-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal<\/strong>, imprisoned in Algeria since November 2024, while for the ultra-right of <strong>ESN, to Charlie Kirk<\/strong>, the pro-Trump influencer and political activist murdered last Wednesday (10 September).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Populars and Conservatives propose the Belarusian opposition, the PfE that of Algeria.
