And so, in order to <strong>protect the two summits scheduled to take place in Copenhagen<\/strong> in the coming days, several countries have <strong>sent men, means, and equipment<\/strong> to Denmark to prevent or neutralise potential <strong>drone attacks<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These are not large-scale deployments, but the very fact that some governments have decided to <strong>call up&nbsp;contingents<\/strong> to deploy them in <strong>defence of the Danish capital<\/strong> speaks volumes about the level of concern caused by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/09\/23\/drones-breach-copenhagen-and-oslo-airports-eu-russia-is-testing-our-borders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fast escalation<\/a> of encroachments and <strong>violations of the airspace<\/strong> of some EU (and NATO) member states, from <strong>Romania<\/strong> to <strong>Estonia<\/strong> via <strong>Poland<\/strong> and, indeed, <strong>Denmark<\/strong> itself.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;European leaders consider them, although they cannot always prove it, to be &#8220;<strong>provocations<\/strong>&#8221; by <strong>Vladimir Putin&#8217;s<\/strong> Russia. Danish Prime Minister <strong>Mette Frederiksen<\/strong> has hinted that she considers the incidents&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">to be actions of a &#8220;<strong>hybrid war&#8221;<\/strong> waged by Moscow against the Alliance, to&nbsp;<strong>test its limits, capabilities, and readiness<\/strong>&nbsp;for<\/span>&nbsp;response. Tomorrow<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">, there will be an informal&nbsp;<strong>European Council meeting<\/strong>, where, in fact,<\/span> defence and support for Ukraine will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/09\/19\/costa-our-security-is-tied-to-ukraines-security-eu-leaders-summit-to-focus-on-supporting-kyiv\/\">discussed<\/a>, while on Thursday (2 October) it will be the turn of the seventh meeting of the <strong>European Political Community<\/strong> (the last meeting<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/05\/08\/in-tirana-the-sixth-summit-of-the-european-political-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was held in Tirana<\/a> last May), where leaders of 47 nations from across the continent are expected to attend.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\">Specifically, the <strong>French<\/strong>&nbsp;executive announced&nbsp;it will provide <strong>35 members of its specialised staff<\/strong>, a Fennec helicopter and &#8220;<strong>active drone countermeasures<\/strong>&#8220;. From <strong>Germany<\/strong>, an air defence frigate has already arrived in the port of Copenhagen, and&nbsp;is expected to be joined by some <strong>40 military personnel<\/strong>. Swedish Prime Minister <strong>Ulf Kristersson<\/strong> has pledged &#8220;<strong>military anti-drone capabilities&#8221;<\/strong> and &#8220;several <strong>powerful radar systems&#8221;<\/strong>, as well as police forces (the latter is also the case for <strong>Norway<\/strong>). Even <strong>Poland<\/strong> will contribute an unspecified <strong>number of soldiers<\/strong>, while the <strong>United Kingdom<\/strong> has sent Denmark an anti-drone <strong>system<\/strong>. NATO itself has confirmed that it will intensify the activities of its <strong>mission in the Baltic Sea<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\">The incidents of recent weeks, which have also led to the deployment of NATO&#8217;s <strong>F-35 fighter jets<\/strong>, have accelerated discussions on the creation of a hypothetical &#8220;<strong>anti-drone wall&#8221;<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/09\/26\/the-unions-future-lies-in-the-drone-wall-but-the-timeframe-is-unclear-in-a-year-or-who-knows\/\">an idea championed above all<\/a>  by European Defence and Space Commissioner <strong>Andrius Kubilius<\/strong>. A high-tech venture for which Ukrainian President <b>Volodymyr Zelensky<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/09\/29\/eus-security-linked-to-that-of-ukraine-and-both-also-depend-on-drones\/\"><b>has offered to collaborate<\/b><\/a> with Brussels, leveraging the fact that Kyiv has the <b>most advanced drone industry in Europe<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\">\n<p>Meanwhile, the leader of the Renew Liberals&#8217; group in the EU Parliament, <strong>Val\u00e9rie Hayer<\/strong>, condemned the Russian actions as &#8220;<strong>intolerable provocations<\/strong>&#8220;, arguing that &#8220;<strong>freedom must go on the offensive<\/strong>.&#8221; European defence must start, she says, with an &#8220;<strong>enhancement of critical infrastructure<\/strong> to ensure credible deterrence on EU territory.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tension is running high in the Danish capital on the eve of the informal European Council, which will be followed by the seventh meeting of the European Political Community.
