People worldwide call for end to genocide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels &#8211; There is a <strong>new flotilla sailing towards Gaza<\/strong>. While the <strong>activists kidnapped and deported by Israel<\/strong> in recent days are <strong>returning to their respective countries<\/strong>, a smaller expedition is sailing in the eastern Mediterranean to pick up the baton left by the sailboats intercepted in this relay race of transnational solidarity. The objective remains the same: to reach the shores of the Palestinian exclave, <strong>break the illegal naval blockade<\/strong> imposed by Tel Aviv in 2009 and <strong>deliver humanitarian aid to the Strip<\/strong> to offer relief to the population exhausted by the <strong>systematic slaughter<\/strong>&nbsp;that has been going on, in its most blatant version, for almost two years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>nine boats<\/strong>, which are currently (6 October) <a href=\"https:\/\/thousandmadleens.fr\/tracker\/?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaeHSur0irlqnUutuvzHEJj10fOx4N68h_Kj31NJs3yBJrBb4bIv45XTr9Q2Nw_aem_lwUMhbOtiqeasxtvqxVX1w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">off Egypt<\/a>, were put to sea by the <strong>Thousand Madleens<\/strong> initiative, affiliated with the <strong>Global Sumud Flotilla<\/strong>, the international civil society mission that in recent weeks<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/10\/01\/flotilla-less-than-100-nautical-miles-from-gaza-they-will-stop-us-perhaps-already-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has contributed significantly<\/a> to keep the world&#8217;s media and political attention focused on the <strong>genocide of Palestinians<\/strong> perpetrated by the Jewish state in Gaza (as documented <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/09\/16\/israel-enters-gaza-city-for-un-it-is-genocide-eu-first-economic-sanctions-tomorrow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by the United Nations<\/a> and by the Israeli NGOs themselves).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first expedition hosted a large&nbsp;number of public figures (above all, activists <strong>Greta Thunberg<\/strong> and <strong>Thiago \u00c1vila<\/strong>) and politicians of various nationalities, including four Italians, on board the more than 40 ships, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/10\/02\/israel-halts-the-flotilla-silence-from-eu-leaders-protests-erupt-across-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stopped by pirate-like methods<\/a> from Israel in international waters between 2 and 3 October: <strong>Marco Croatti <\/strong>(M5s senator), <strong>Arturo Scotto<\/strong> (PD&nbsp;representative), <strong>Benedetta Scuderi<\/strong> (AVS MEP) and <strong>Annalisa Corrado<\/strong> (PD MEP). This time, the crews are smaller and do not include any famous names. Reports mention <strong>physical, verbal, and psychological violence<\/strong> to humiliate them, resorting to <strong>inhuman and degrading treatment,<\/strong> especially during their stay in detention facilities. Thunberg, for example, was allegedly wrapped in an Israeli flag and carried in triumph by the Tel Aviv military as a hunting trophy, only to end up in a cell infested with bedbugs. Tommasi himself claimed to have been&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><strong>repeatedly<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>beaten<\/strong> and exposed to public ridicule by<\/span>&nbsp;the soldiers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\">The Farnesina announced in the afternoon the return home of the <strong>last 15 Italians still detained<\/strong> in Israel. According to Foreign Minister <strong>Antonio Tajani<\/strong>, they are all &#8220;in excellent physical condition.&#8221; Tel Aviv said it had today <strong>expelled 171 European nationals<\/strong> (including Thunberg and our compatriots) to <strong>Greece<\/strong> and <strong>Slovakia<\/strong>, while at least <strong>138 others<\/strong> were&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">still<strong>&nbsp;in<\/strong><\/span><strong>&nbsp;custody<\/strong>. On 3 October, the <strong>four parliamentarians<\/strong> who had taken part in the mission had already returned to Italy, while over the weekend it was the turn of <strong>26 other citizens<\/strong> of the Republic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\">The actions in Tel Aviv, moreover, triggered a <strong>transversal response from global civil society<\/strong> of unexpected proportions. Over the past few days, millions of people<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/10\/03\/millions-across-europe-gather-for-gaza-and-the-flotilla-brussels-tensions-in-front-of-parliament\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">took to the streets<\/a>, in Europe and around the world, occupying public space with their bodies through participatory protests that carried a <strong>double message of solidarity<\/strong>: both towards the <strong>Palestinian people<\/strong>, slaughtered live in the deafening silence of world governments, and towards the <strong>Flotilla activists<\/strong>. However, a <strong>debate on Gaza<\/strong> (including on diplomatic efforts to reach a negotiated solution to the conflict) is set for tomorrow, on the <strong>second anniversary of the Hamas attack<\/strong> in 2023.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At this very moment, in <strong>Egypt<\/strong>, the <strong>emissaries of Israel and Hamas<\/strong> are meeting to indirectly negotiate the terms of the <strong>20-point peace plan<\/strong> drawn up by <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> with the help of former British Prime Minister <strong>Tony Blair<\/strong> and made public <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/09\/30\/trumps-gaza-plan-ultimatum-to-hamas-and-boost-to-netanyahu-backed-by-the-eu-and-arab-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the end of September<\/a> by the US president during the visit of Israeli Prime Minister <strong>Benjamin Netanyahu<\/strong> to Washington.
