They should be supported, with direct public funding. So say the Italians<\/strong> in the&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">Eurobarometer survey on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/EN\/legal-content\/glossary\/social-economy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the social economy<\/a>, the set of enterprises and bodies active in promoting<\/span>&nbsp;social policies. There are many different entities involved&nbsp;in projects with objectives useful to citizens: cooperatives, associations, foundations, voluntary organisations, and even non-governmental organisations, those NGOs&nbsp;so much opposed in Italy for the role they play\u2014according to the Meloni government\u2014in supporting immigration. But they&nbsp;find appreciation in civil society and public opinion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Eurobarometer survey<\/strong> <strong>asked if social economy organisations should receive public funding, and 85 per cent of Italians answered &#8220;yes&#8221;<\/strong>. Italy ranks fifth in the EU in terms of consensus, sympathy, and support for NGOs, cooperatives, and associations, behind only Ireland, Greece, Croatia, and Lithuania.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/sostegno-ogn.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-438726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/sostegno-ogn.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"998\" height=\"509\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/sostegno-ogn.png 998w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/sostegno-ogn-300x153.png 300w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/sostegno-ogn-768x392.png 768w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/sostegno-ogn-750x383.png 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 998px) 100vw, 998px\" \/><\/a>However, it should be emphasised that <strong>for Italians, the social economy is seen as an indispensable pillar of health support<\/strong>: support for the elderly, the disabled, and minors is considered&nbsp;the area where third-sector operators make the greatest&nbsp;difference, and is therefore fundamental to support them.
