It has therefore been registered, and may even have a follow-up, if promoters and organisers manage to collect one million signatures within a year in at least seven EU Member States.<strong><\/strong><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">\u200b<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">\u200b<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong>The EU executive did not address the initiative&#8217;s substance. <\/strong>Its registration, which may lead to a legislative proposal, was granted based on formal requirements,&nbsp;all of which were met and fulfilled<strong><\/strong>. Brussels considers the request to reform the twelve\u2011star party system &#8220;legally admissible&#8221; under the<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX:32019R0788\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Citizens&#8217; Initiative Regulation<\/a>. Indeed, because it really is a reform. The European Commission is asked to &#8220;propose&nbsp;<strong>a legislative act amending<\/strong> and tightening up&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/eli\/reg\/2014\/1141\/oj\/eng\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the EU regulation<\/a> on European political parties and political foundations and introduce &#8220;<strong>stricter requirements&#8221; regarding&nbsp;conflicts of interest<\/strong>, transparency, decision-making, unethical conduct, and funding.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> Should the one million signatures needed to move the citizens&#8217; initiative forward be found, the Commission will assess the matter on its merits.
