Brussels – Objective: development and management of artificial intelligence gigafactories in Europe<\/strong>, a world-class artificial intelligence processing infrastructure aimed at strengthening Europe’s industry and competitiveness. The EU Council approves an amendment to the  regulations <\/a>governing<\/span> the activities of the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPCJU), extending its scope. The targeted amendment to EU legislation aims to include a pillar dedicated to quantum technologies and facilitate the creation of gigafactories, mega-production facilities designed specifically for high-capacity energy storage batteries. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The targeted amendment offers flexibility to market operators and trading partners, allowing them to optimise results while promoting Europe’s leadership in artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. At the same time, it aims to safeguard the interests of start-ups and scale-ups, i.e. newly established companies and their industrial expansion. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Today we have taken a bold and swift step<\/strong> towards creating gigafactories for artificial intelligence in Europe,” said a satisfied Nicodemos Damianou<\/strong>, Deputy Minister for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of the Government of Cyprus, the country holding the rotating presidency<\/a> of the Council of the EU. “Artificial intelligence,” he added, “is one of the most crucial technologies of our time, defining our digital future, and investing in the infrastructure capacity necessary for artificial intelligence is essential<\/strong> to strengthening Europe’s resilience, competitiveness, and sovereignty.”<\/span><\/span><\/span>

The amendment does not require further legislative steps. Following Council approval, the amendment will be incorporated into the text, the revised and updated version of which will be published in the EU Official Journal on 19 January and will enter into force the following day.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
