Once again. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/01\/14\/mercosur-von-der-leyen-faces-new-motion-of-censure-fourth-since-beginning-her-term\/\">For the fourth time<\/a>&nbsp;since the beginning of her term, the Chamber has not withdrawn its confidence in the EU executive. <strong>With 165 votes in favour, 390 against, and 10 abstentions<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/B-10-2026-0063_EN.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">motion<\/a> tabled by the sovereigntist group, which includes the League, has been defeated.&nbsp;The outcome was expected. Since it was an initiative put forward by an opposition, Eurosceptic parliamentary group, the main pro\u2011European majority groups had already indicated they would not support it,&nbsp;and that is exactly what happened.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-fluid\" data-file-name=\"image.png\" src=\"\/web\/image\/210-3bed604b\/image.png?access_token=7a81dc58-9270-4175-b047-8012cd475814\"><\/p>\n<p>The motion of censure concerned&nbsp;the trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay), which has also been criticised and contested by other parties in the Chamber. For von der Leyen, the real unknown linked to Mercosur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/01\/21\/farmers-celebrate-in-strasbourg-as-eu%e2%80%91mercosur-deal-is-referred-to-the-court-of-justice\/\">is the vote that refers the text to the EU Court of Justice<\/a>&nbsp;for&nbsp;verification of its legal compatibility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The no\u2011confidence motion put forward by the group that includes the League was sunk with 165 votes in favour, 390 against and 10 abstentions.
