These are the estimates reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/web\/products-eurostat-news\/w\/ddn-20260202-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eurostat<\/a>, the statistical office of the European Union. Italy, with 8.6 per cent, is <strong>0.6 points<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>below the European average<\/strong>,&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><strong>down 0.9&nbsp;<\/strong>points from<\/span>&nbsp;2023.\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-align: inherit\">The highest levels of difficulty in heating homes are found in&nbsp;<\/span><strong style=\"text-align: inherit\">Bulgaria and Greece<\/strong><span style=\"text-align: inherit\">, both at&nbsp;<\/span><strong style=\"text-align: inherit\">19.0 per cent<\/strong><span style=\"text-align: inherit\">, followed by&nbsp;<\/span><strong style=\"text-align: inherit\">Lithuania (18.0 per cent)<\/strong><span style=\"text-align: inherit\">&nbsp;and&nbsp;<\/span><strong style=\"text-align: inherit\">Spain (17.5 per cent)<\/strong><span style=\"text-align: inherit\">.<\/span>&nbsp;At the opposite end of the scale are <strong>Finland (2.7 per cent)<\/strong>, <strong>Poland and Slovenia (both at 3.3 per cent)<\/strong>, and <strong>Estonia and Luxembourg (both at 3.6 per cent)<\/strong>.\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Portugal<\/strong> is the country that has seen the most significant annual improvement, with a <strong>5.1 percentage-point reduction<\/strong> in the proportion of the population experiencing difficulties heating their homes, <strong>from 20.8 per cent in 2023 to 15.7 per cent in 2024<\/strong>.&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">Conversely,&nbsp;<strong>Malta<\/strong>&nbsp;is the country that showed a&nbsp;<strong>worsening<\/strong>&nbsp;compared to 2023, rising from&nbsp;<strong>6.8 to 7.8 per cent<\/strong>.<\/span>&nbsp;In the Netherlands, on the other hand, the situation remained unchanged from the previous year,&nbsp;<strong>7.1 per cent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking beyond the EU, <strong>Switzerland<\/strong> has the lowest proportion of people struggling to heat their homes, at <strong>0.7 per cent<\/strong>,&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">up<strong>&nbsp;0.2 percentage points<\/strong>&nbsp;from<\/span>&nbsp;2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The highest percentages were observed in Bulgaria and Greece (both at 19 per cent), followed by Lithuania (18 per cent) and Spain (17.5 per cent).
