This was reported by the Commissioner for the Economy, <strong>Valdis Dombrovskis<\/strong>, during a hearing before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/committees\/en\/juri\/home\/highlights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Committee on Legal Affairs<\/b><\/a> of the European Parliament. In addition to the 552 new infringement procedures, there were <strong>71 referrals to the Court of Justice<\/strong> of the EU, concerning 21 different Member States,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/10\/08\/honorary-magistrates-italy-referred-to-court-of-justice-and-a-new-procedure\/\"> including Italy<\/a>. <strong>Twenty of the 71 referrals were accompanied by requests for fines<\/strong>. \u201cWhen cooperation in implementing European regulations fails, decisive action is necessary,\u201d Dombrovskis emphasised.<\/p>\n<p>The good news, he points out, is that <strong>554 old pending cases were closed in 2025<\/strong>.
