The European Commission has decided to include the product <strong>in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/agriculture\/eambrosia\/geographical-indications-register\/?locale=ga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Union\u2019s list<\/a> of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI)<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Erbazzone Reggiano \u2013 also known as \u2018scarpazzone\u2019 (scarpas\u00f2un in the Reggio Emilia dialect),<strong> is a herb-filled pie<\/strong>&nbsp;typical of Emilia-Romagna, consisting of two layers of dough&nbsp;and a filling of spinach,&nbsp;chard, breadcrumbs, and Parmigiano Reggiano PDO, aged for at least 24 months.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The top crust is sprinkled with crispy lardons.<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;Whether round or rectangular, cooked or frozen, Erbazzone Reggiano<br \/>\nembodies the culinary heritage of a region renowned for its gastronomic<br \/>\nexcellence. Its reputation is deeply rooted in local tradition, with<br \/>\nwidespread recognition in Italian media, cookbooks, and food festivals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>With the designation granted today (27 March)<strong>, the number of Italian agricultural products of recognised quality<\/strong>, certified and protected at the EU level <strong>, now stands at 328, comprising PDO (174) and PGI (154) products<\/strong>. Taking into account the <strong>523 \u2018Made in Italy\u2019 wines already included in the lists of protected products<\/strong> at the EU level, comprising DOC (411) and PGI (112) labels, the total number of recognised and protected Italian food and wine products rises to <strong>851<\/strong>.
