The&nbsp;urgency is set out and emphasised in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/thinktank\/en\/document\/BUDG_BRI(2026)785052\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">working document<\/a> by the European Parliament, which analyses Ukraine\u2019s immediate and future economic and financial challenges. &#8220;Ukraine\u2019s <strong>ongoing financing needs during the war total around 3 billion euros per month&#8230;<\/strong><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><strong>to keep the state functioning,<\/strong>&#8221;&nbsp;according to the document drafted by the institution&#8217;s think tank on behalf of the Committee on Budgets. Hence the warning: &#8220;In case this financing is not available from external sources,<br \/>\n<strong>the Ukrainian central bank needs to print money, which would fuel inflation<\/strong> and lead to a currency<br \/>\ncrisis.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the sake of Ukraine\u2019s economic stability and to avert the risk of contagion to the European economy, it is essential to provide Kyiv with what it needs.&nbsp;From this perspective, the document notes, the European Union appears to be staying the course, since \u201cthe <strong>EU<br \/>\nfinancial capacity <\/strong>under the existing and proposed legal framework is <strong>comfortably sufficient to<br \/>\ncover all headroom-backed loans between now and the end of 2034<\/strong>.<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>However, it is necessary to start releasing the 90 billion euros package, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/03\/06\/tensions-rise-between-hungary-and-ukraine-eu-considers-financial-support-for-resumption-of-druzhba-pipeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">still blocked by Hungary\u2019s vetoes<\/a>, given&nbsp;<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Ukraine\u2019s national budget is estimated to face a<strong> deficit of around 61\u201363 billion dollars in&nbsp;2026 and 2027<\/strong>. Looking ahead, even more substantial financial commitments will be required. As the conflict continues, the costs of repair keep rising: the European Commission and the World Bank, together with the Ukrainian government and the United Nations, have estimated the <strong>funding needs for reconstruction<\/strong> and recovery in the decade following the war <a href=\"https:\/\/documents.worldbank.org\/en\/publication\/documents-reports\/documentdetail\/099445209072239810\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at 349 billion dollars in June 2022<\/a>, at 411 billion dollars in March 2023, 486 billion in February 2024, $524 billion in December 2024 and at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.undp.org\/ukraine\/publications\/ukraine-fifth-rapid-damage-and-needs-assessment-rdna5-february-2022-december-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">588 billion dollars in December 2025.<\/a>. Costs have therefore almost doubled.<\/span><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><strong>To date, Team Europe has provided Ukraine with financial<\/strong>, military, and humanitarian support amounting to <strong>approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/02\/10\/eu-aid-to-ukraine-reaches-193-billion-euros-from-start-of-war-to-end%e2%80%912025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">193 billion euros<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">This includes 88.6 billion euros in financial support (repayable and non-repayable) from the EU budget, consisting of macro-financial assistance (43.3 billion euros), the Ukraine Facility (36.7 billion euros), and other EU instruments, as well as loans and guarantees from the EU, the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (of which the EU is a shareholder).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A working paper points out that, without aid, Kyiv will have to print money, leading to a rise in inflation.
