{"id":449798,"date":"2026-04-08T18:20:26","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T16:20:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2026\/04\/08\/agricoltura-guarda-greens-efa-il-testo-ocm-tradisce-i-produttori-la-destra-preferisce-gli-slogan-ai-contratti\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T18:34:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T16:34:02","slug":"agriculture-guarda-greens-efa-the-cmo-text-betrays-producers-the-right-wing-prefers-slogans-to-contracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/04\/08\/agriculture-guarda-greens-efa-the-cmo-text-betrays-producers-the-right-wing-prefers-slogans-to-contracts\/","title":{"rendered":"Agriculture, Guarda (Greens\/EFA): &#8220;The CMO text betrays producers; the right wing prefers slogans to contracts&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels \u2013 \u201cToday, together with my group, I voted against the targeted reform of the Common Market Organisation (CMO) because<strong> the final text amounts to a real betrayal of farmers<\/strong>.\u201d This was stated on the sidelines of the vote by the Green\/EFA MEP, <strong>Cristina Guarda<\/strong> (Greens\/EFA), rapporteur for the forthcoming CMO reform. \u201cThe aim,\u201d she recalls, \u201cwas ambitious: to strengthen their position in the value chain so as to finally give them the power to protect their income through binding, robust, and transparent contracts, applicable also to members of cooperatives.\u201d But \u201cright-wing politicians have deliberately chosen not to fight for this\u201d and \u201chave preferred to sell off farmers\u2019 dignity just to gain some meagre satisfaction in a culture war over the use of the word &#8220;burger&#8221; and meat designations,\u201d she points out. &#8220;<strong>An ideological battle<\/strong> waged by the rapporteur with the active support of the right-wing parties for the sole purpose of sacrificing the sector\u2019s genuine economic interests,&#8221; the MEP from the Green Left Alliance (AVS) emphasises once again.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The result is a text that allows Member States to exempt entire sectors from the requirement for written contracts by citing &#8220;justified reasons&#8221; that are so vague as to render the entire reform meaningless. &#8220;This is an unacceptable exemption,&#8221; comments the MEP, &#8220;which <strong>affects the dairy sector in particular<\/strong>, a sector that has been under unsustainable pressure for months and which would have needed strict rules on price transparency and contractualisation to protect producers\u2019 livelihoods.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8220;The rapporteur and certain agricultural representatives have used producers\u2019 rights as a smokescreen to fight ideological battles, ultimately harming the very people they claim to want to defend,&#8221; she continues.
