Measures on the way&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels &#8211; <strong>There is no immediate risk <\/strong>to the security of oil supplies in the European Union, but <strong>there is growing concern over price trends, and a package of measures is being prepared<\/strong>. This was the outcome of today\u2019s (8 April) meeting of the ad hoc oil coordination group convened by the European Commission to monitor energy security in the context of international tensions.&nbsp;According to a European official speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, &#8220;<strong>there are no risks<\/strong> to the security of oil supplies, nor are any expected for the month of April&#8221;. Rather, the concern is \u201cthe<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/03\/18\/the-eu-is-grappling-with-energy-costs-however-imported-oil-and-natural-gas-still-account-for-60-per-cent-of-the-energy-mix\/\">impact on prices<\/a><\/strong>&#8220;,<strong><\/strong> which are heavily influenced by global dynamics and geopolitical uncertainty. At the same time, \u201cit appears that the impact on the market may be limited due to transit times and considerations relating to logistics, insurance, and bottlenecks in the Strait of Hormuz.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/energy.ec.europa.eu\/news\/commission-eu-countries-and-industry-meet-assess-oil-market-situation-2026-04-08_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> by the European Commission, during the discussion, representatives of the Commission, Member States and industry emphasised that<strong> the European Union<\/strong> &#8220;<strong>has the tools<\/strong> to manage this crisis,&#8221; thanks to a strategy of diversifying energy sources launched in recent years and limited direct exposure to the region involved in the conflict prior to its outbreak. Furthermore, <strong>Brussels is also preparing a series of concrete measures<\/strong> to support Member States and mitigate the economic effects of the crisis. \u201cThe EU has the necessary tools to manage this crisis,\u201d the European official stated. \u201cThis is the result of proactive diversification and the fact that our direct exposure to the region was limited prior to the conflict. A set of concrete measures is being prepared,\u201d he added, \u201cto help Member States mitigate the impact of the crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The discussion also revealed that, at present, &#8220;<strong>oil supply remains stable<\/strong>,&#8221; although it continues to be affected by <strong>fluctuations<\/strong> in international prices. Industry representatives, however, expressed concern about&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">uncertainties regarding the&nbsp;<strong>duration of the conflict<\/strong>, reiterating the need to avoid undue interference in&nbsp;<\/span>markets and to ensure transparency and coordination at the European level. The issue had already been the focus of the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">Council&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/meetings\/tte\/2026\/03\/31\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> extraordinary meeting&nbsp;<\/a><\/span>&nbsp;on 31 March, during which the Commission and EU countries shared the latest data <strong>on stocks and market conditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The ad hoc coordination group on oil is, according to the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing,&nbsp;<strong><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Dan J\u00f8rgensen, <\/span><\/span><\/strong><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">a major source of support, alongside the&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/energy.ec.europa.eu\/strategy\/energy-union\/energy-union-task-force_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Energy Union &#8220;Security&#8221; Task Force<\/b><\/a>,<span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">&nbsp;for strengthening coordination and promoting joint planning capable of &#8220;optimising the balance between supply and demand in the long term.&#8221; The European Commissioner had explained this in a letter to all EU energy ministers, asking Member States to &#8220;<strong>make timely<\/strong> and <strong>coordinated<\/strong> <strong>preparations<\/strong>&#8221;
