This is the finding of the&nbsp;<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/04\/09\/two-thirds-of-hungarians-trust-the-eu-but-there-are-divisions-over-ukraine-and-the-countrys-international-stance\/\" target=\"_blank\">&nbsp;recent survey&nbsp;<\/a>by the think tank&nbsp;<strong>European Council on Foreign Relations<\/strong>&nbsp;(ECFR), which polled Hungarian voters ahead of the upcoming&nbsp;<strong>elections&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span>on a range of issues related<\/span>&nbsp;to their views on the EU and Budapest\u2019s international standing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to the survey, remaining in the EU is <strong>&#8220;strongly&#8221;<\/strong> <strong>supported<\/strong> by <strong>52 per cent<\/strong> of respondents, while a further <strong>25 per cent<\/strong> support it &#8220;<strong>fairly<\/strong>&#8220;. Only <strong>12 per cent<\/strong> of the sample would favour a <strong>Hungarian-style Brexit<\/strong>, with <strong>4 per cent<\/strong> being <strong>strongly<\/strong> opposed to remaining in the Union and <strong>8 per cent<\/strong> being <strong>somewhat<\/strong> opposed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the percentages of voters for each party, <strong>83 per cent<\/strong> of those who say they will vote for <strong>TISZA<\/strong>\u2014the pro-European centre-right party led by<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/04\/10\/who-is-peter-magyar-orbans-former-right%e2%80%91hand-man-now-leading-the-challenge-to-his-system-of-power\/\">P\u00e9ter Magyar<\/a>\u2014describe themselves as <strong>strong supporters<\/strong> of Budapest\u2019s membership of the EU institutions, alongside <strong>11 per cent<\/strong> who <strong>somewhat support<\/strong> this choice. Only <strong>4 per cent<\/strong> of Magyar\u2019s supporters, however, say they <strong>do not approve<\/strong> of remaining in the EU (2 per cent are somewhat opposed, whilst another 2 per cent are strongly opposed). Among Orb\u00e1n\u2019s voters, pro-European sentiment is predictably less widespread, but does not mirror the Prime Minister\u2019s openly hostile attitude towards Brussels. <strong>65 per cent of Fidesz voters<\/strong>, the political party founded by Orb\u00e1n, are <strong>in favour<\/strong> of Budapest\u2019s membership of the EU, with those who <strong>somewhat<\/strong> support this decision (<strong>34 per cent<\/strong>) narrowly outnumbering those who <strong>strongly<\/strong>&nbsp;support it (<strong>31 per cent<\/strong>). <strong>Eurosceptics<\/strong>, therefore, are a minority even among the Hungarian leader\u2019s loyalists, accounting for only <strong>28 per cent<\/strong> of his electorate (<strong>19 per cent<\/strong> are <strong>somewhat opposed<\/strong> to remaining in Europe and <strong>8 per cent<\/strong> are <strong>strongly<\/strong> opposed).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to a survey by the ECFR think tank, pro-European sentiment is prevalent among Magyar voters (83 per cent).
