Cautious because<strong> the Jewish state\u2019s military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon have already prompted warnings from Iran and the United States<\/strong>, which include, among other conditions, a halt to Israel\u2019s attacks in the Middle East\u2014a demand that has not yet been met. &#8220;<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Diplomacy, and this is clear, remains the only viable path,<\/span><\/span><\/span>&#8221; emphasised Kallas\u2019s spokesperson during the usual briefing with the international press. <span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&#8220;As the EU, <strong>we welcome&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/netanyahu-israel-wants-start-peace-talks-with-lebanon-as-soon-possible-2026-04-09\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>the Israeli announcement of&nbsp;<\/b><\/a><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><strong>the launch of peace talks with Lebanon<\/strong>,&#8221; and now &#8220;we look forward with interest to the actual start of the talks and their outcomes.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission appears to have little confidence in the Israeli government and its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who has already faced widespread criticism for the raids on Beirut and has now been warned once again: &#8220;<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">With regard to the situation in Lebanon, <strong>we call for an immediate cessation of the attacks<\/strong>, which have already caused serious civilian casualties and damaged civilian infrastructure,\u201d continues Kallas\u2019s spokesperson, in what sounds like further criticism of the Jewish state and its actions.<\/span><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">To Netanyahu, whose armed forces fired on the Italian contingent of UN peacekeepers\u2014<\/span><\/span><\/span>much to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governo.it\/en\/articolo\/statement-palazzo-chigi\/31474\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>disappointment of the government<\/b><\/a> in Rome\u2014<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">is also being sent another reminder: the European Union recognises &#8220;<strong>full and unconditional support for UNIFIL<\/strong>, in light of its crucial and fundamental role in the stabilisation of Lebanon.&#8221; The&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><b>United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon&nbsp;<\/b><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">must not be called into question, nor must the international order, and El Anouni makes this clear: as the European Union, \u201cwe will continue to support Lebanon together with our Member States and in coordination with the United Nations.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The spokesperson for the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy: &#8220;Enough with the attacks; diplomacy is the only way forward.
