Responding to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/P-10-2026-000916_EN.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parliamentary question<\/a>&nbsp;submitted by Emil Radev (EPP), the Commissioner assures that &#8220;f<strong>or the time being, there are no increased migratory flows to the&nbsp;EU,<\/strong>&#8221; but he adds, never say never.<\/span><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&#8220;As<strong> the situation on the ground may evolve rapidly, the&nbsp;EU must be prepared <\/strong>and act decisively to address challenges, mobilizing its diplomatic, legal, operational and financial tools,&#8221; the Commissioner responsible for Migration stressed. &nbsp;This is the EU executive\u2019s call not to sit idly by, and an acknowledgment of a potential crisis that requires preparations to begin.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/03\/16\/iran-conflict-eu-fears-for-food-security-and-a-new-migration-crisis\/\">https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/03\/16\/iran-conflict-eu-fears-for-food-security-and-a-new-migration-crisis\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After all, the uncertainty remains profound. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/04\/08\/iran-and-the-us-agree-to-a-two%e2%80%91week-truce-the-strait-of-hormuz-reopens-and-markets-rally\/\">announcement of a two-week ceasefire<\/a>&nbsp;between the United States&nbsp;and Iran has not yet resulted in any agreement between the parties, and the situation remains highly unstable and unpredictable. For this reason, Brunner highlights the possibility that the situation could change rapidly \u2013 and for the worse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&#8220;The Commission is addressing the evolving emergency needs on the ground by <strong>supporting partner countries,<\/strong>&#8221; Brunner said. This effort is being carried out not only through financial aid, but also \u201cthrough cooperation with international organizations\u201d such as the International Organization for Migration (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iom.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IOM<\/a>) and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNHCR<\/a>), \u201cin both immediate and longer-term response efforts.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">As for the internal, EU-level front, <strong>&#8220;the Commission supports Member States to ensure the establishment of a well-prepared migration management system<\/strong>, including measures to ensure preparedness, <strong>contingency planning, and crisis response.<\/strong>&#8221; Emergency and crisis, two terms that convey the sense of concern felt in Brussels as in other European Union capitals.
