Because <span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">the number of veterans and their family members stands at 5\u20136 million, or around 15 percent of Ukraine\u2019s 38 million inhabitants, and<strong> by the end of 2025, there were over 1.4 million registered veterans and over 143,000 people with disabilities<\/strong>, &#8220;a condition that was directly caused by the Russian invasion,&#8221; a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/thinktank\/fr\/document\/EPRS_BRI(2026)785703\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">working document<\/a> of the European Parliament denounces. Those who are not veterans with physical injuries often find themselves in need of psychological support, for what is already a social issue that Ukraine must address.<\/span><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">&#8220;<strong>Among veterans, there is a significant need for access to proper medical treatment, prosthetics,<br \/>\nrehabilitation, necessary medicines, and psychological support,<\/strong>&#8221; the European Parliament\u2019s Research Service notes. &#8220;Taking into account the age of<br \/>\nveterans, <strong>there will be a need for rehabilitation services over the next 60-70 years<\/strong>,&#8221; it warns. This assumes the Russia-Ukraine war ends in the coming weeks, as a prolonged conflict risks increasing the need for future support.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The European Union took action on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kmu.gov.ua\/en\/news\/yuliia-svyrydenko-obhovoryla-z-kaieiu-kallas-pidtrymku-veteraniv-ta-finansovu-dopomohu-ies-ukraini\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the issue, discussed in Kyiv on 31 March<\/a>, following a meeting between the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, <strong>Kaja Kallas<\/strong>, and the Prime Minister of Ukraine, <strong><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> Yulia Svyrydenko<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>. Ukraine and the European Union are beginning to address the reintegration into civilian life, starting with the&nbsp;workplace.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeas.europa.eu\/eeas\/ukraine-press-conference-high-representativevice-president-kaja-kallas-following-informal-meeting-eu_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Kallas expressed the European Union\u2019s commitment in this regard<\/a>, assuring that the &#8220;<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">EU&nbsp;is expanding support for their rehabilitation and reintegration into civilian sectors here in Ukraine, and that is, of course, applying to all veterans.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;As evidence of this, the EU\u2019s commitment to supporting amputees, the wounded, and former soldiers in need of psychological support will be on the agenda of next week\u2019s Foreign Affairs Council meeting (21 April), where&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/meetings\/fac\/2026\/04\/21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine and EU support for the country is the first item on the agenda<\/a>. The aim is to determine how the European Union can contribute, and to this end, an adequate financial contribution must first be secured, within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/02\/10\/eu-aid-to-ukraine-reaches-193-billion-euros-from-start-of-war-to-end%e2%80%912025\/\">all the support provided so far<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/02\/10\/eu-aid-to-ukraine-reaches-193-billion-euros-from-start-of-war-to-end%e2%80%912025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">.<\/a> It will be up to Kyiv to implement the measures and policies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Parliament highlights another aspect of the war: those who have served in the military for many years.
