This is the order of priority for the energy sources the European Union should draw upon, according to the <strong>European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans<\/strong>, the Cypriot <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/about\/organisation\/college-commissioners\/costas-kadis_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Costas Kadis<\/a>. \u201cWe must remain focused on our path towards climate neutrality, which is the only sustainable way forward,\u201d he stated in <strong>an exclusive interview with <em>Eunews<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;on the sidelines of the eleventh edition of the <strong>Delphi Economic Forum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Against the backdrop of the current energy crisis, Kadis emphasised that the European Commission is, with regard to the markets, \u201c<strong>exploring all possibilities<\/strong>, while naturally taking into account the EU\u2019s strategic interests.\u201d Ahead of the informal summit in Cyprus, the Commissioner said he was \u201c<strong>optimistic<\/strong>\u201d about the outcome of the discussions: \u201cDuring the College of Commissioners meeting, we discussed energy issues and put forward proposals for short-, medium- and long-term measures needed to address both the consequences of the crisis in the Middle East and the structural challenges facing the energy sector.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_451266\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Costas-Kadis-banner.jpg-scaled-e1776955546151.webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-451266\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Costas-Kadis-banner.jpg-scaled-e1776955546151-300x265.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Costas-Kadis-banner.jpg-scaled-e1776955546151-300x265.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Costas-Kadis-banner.jpg-scaled-e1776955546151.webp 725w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-451266\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Costas Kadis (photo: European Commission)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The solutions outlined in <strong><\/strong>the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;rct=j&amp;opi=89978449&amp;url=https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_26_629&amp;ved=2ahUKEwi50-3QloSUAxW94wIHHY7nBjIQFnoECBcQAQ&amp;usg=AOvVaw17rCRHmQtlMlbMPpmlrrtV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> AccelerateEU strategy<\/a> <\/strong>include a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/04\/22\/the-eus-plan-to-tackle-the-energy-crisis-sparks-a-political-row-in-brussels\/\">greater coordination among Member States<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;to ensure <strong>synchrony<\/strong> in the replenishment of gas stocks, flexibility in the rules, the release of oil stocks and the availability of fuels, and temporary, targeted measures to support vulnerable consumers and industries. These include selective subsidies, energy vouchers, social leasing, a reduction in excise duties on electricity and a new temporary framework for state aid. Added to this are <strong>the acceleration<\/strong> towards <strong>clean energy<\/strong>, the <strong>strengthening of electricity grids<\/strong> and an <strong>increase in investment<\/strong> through more effective use of European funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith these proposals,\u201d added Kadis, \u201cI am confident that Member States will be able to make informed decisions, taking into account the work carried out by the Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are also a cause for concern in the Commissioner\u2019s areas of responsibility, particularly fisheries and the oceans. To address these challenges, the European Commission is working on a<strong> timeline&nbsp;for the energy transition<\/strong> in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. The document, which forms part of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/news-and-media\/news\/commission-adopts-ocean-pact-eu1-billion-protect-marine-life-and-strengthen-blue-economy-2025-06-11_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>European Oceans Pact<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal\">,<\/span> <\/a><\/strong>will be presented &#8220;by the end of the year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>With the Blue Economy Plan, announced at the <a href=\"https:\/\/unocnice2025.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>United Nations<\/b> <strong>Ocean Summit<\/strong><\/a> in 2025, Brussels had, for the first time, pledged its commitment to supporting the <strong>sustainable growth<\/strong> of coastal communities and the protection of marine ecosystems, with a funding <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ac_25_1475\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allocation of one billion euros<\/a><b> <\/b>earmarked for ocean conservation, scientific research, and sustainable fishing.
