Brussels \u2013 Moving forward with the competitiveness agenda and the political roadmap for a major relaunch of the twelve-star economy. The European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the EU have signed an inter-institutional agreement<\/strong> to work together on One Europe, One Market, the agenda already announced in February<\/a> by the President of the European Commission. The informal summit of EU heads of state and government in Cyprus provides an opportunity for representatives of the three European institutions to sign a joint declaration committing to achieving all the objectives set out in the program<\/a> and in accordance with clear and tight deadlines: between June of this year and March of next year,<\/strong> the EU must have approved all the legislative proposals covered by the commitment. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“This Roadmap reflects what the European Parliament has been calling for: <\/strong>a stronger, more competitive and resilient Europe,<\/strong>” said the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola<\/strong>. The One Europe, One Market agenda, she emphasizes, \u201cis ambitious, it strengthens our capacity to withstand shocks, and it provides predictability to our citizens and businesses. We said we would take bold decisions and we are doing it.” From now on, she assures us, “on the priority dossiers of the roadmap, the European Parliament will do its duty<\/strong>. And we will do it well.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Moving forward with its [the roadmap’s, ed] implementation is not merely a regulatory exercise. It is a strategic necessity<\/strong> to reinforce Europe\u2019s competitiveness, resilience, and long-term prosperity,” said Nikos Christodoulides<\/strong>, President of Cyprus, which currently holds the rotating <\/a>EU Council presidency.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/p>\n

For Ursula von der Leyen<\/strong>, the President of the European Commission, who had already received leaders’ approval<\/a> for the roadmap, the signing of the inter-institutional agreement is a source of further satisfaction: “With this Roadmap, we have the way forward,” and the EU executive intends to follow it. “It is an absolute priority of this Commission,” assures von der Leyen, who returns from the informal summit of heads of state and government with a political success that also gives meaning to the summit itself.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
