Brussels \u2013 Electricity and gas prices for businesses, shops, offices, and public transport fell in the second half of 2025, with the average electricity price down by 3.5 per cent compared with the first half of 2025, and gas prices down by as much as 8.3 per cent. Data released today (8 May) by Eurostat shows that the Third Gulf War \u2014 the military operation launched by the United States and Israel against Iran at the end of February \u2014 helped reverse the trend and forced not only the adoption of measures to mitigate the impact of soaring energy prices<\/a>, but also the use of past\u2011tense verbs when describing the trajectory of energy prices.<\/span><\/p>\n

The European statistical office<\/a> provides an overview of the situation for so-called non-domestic consumers, i.e. all categories other than households: traders, entrepreneurs, office workers, and healthcare staff. In short, the cost of electricity for production and business operations in the EU between July and December 2025 was \u20ac18.37 per 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh), down from \u20ac19.03 in the first half of 2025 (-3.5 per cent)<\/strong>. As for gas, the average price in the EU was \u20ac6.05 per 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh), down from \u20ac6.60 in the first half of 2025 (-8.3 per cent), “following a year of stabilised prices.”<\/p>\n

Compared with the January\u2013June 2025, the highest electricity prices were recorded in Ireland (\u20ac25.52 per 100 kWh), Cyprus (\u20ac24.29) and Germany (\u20ac22.64).<\/span><\/span> The lowest, on the other hand, were in Finland (\u20ac7.48) and Sweden (\u20ac9.70). Gas prices were highest in Sweden (\u20ac10.65 per 100 kWh), Finland (\u20ac8.63), and Germany (\u20ac7.13), and lowest in Bulgaria (\u20ac4.14), Greece (\u20ac4.24), Portugal and Belgium (each at \u20ac4.81).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 As for Italy<\/strong>, electricity and gas prices fell during the same period. Italy is not among the EU Member States with the sharpest declines, but it nevertheless recorded a fall of over 9 per cent for gas and around 3 per cent for electricity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
