We respect the impartiality and independence of the Court and are strongly committed to international criminal justice and the fight against impunity.&#8221; Meanwhile, regarding the US sanctions still in force against the European judges of the International Criminal Court, the Slovenian<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/news\/international-criminal-court-deplores-new-sanctions-us-administration-against-icc-officials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beti Hohler\u00a0<\/a>and the French <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/news\/icc-strongly-rejects-new-us-sanctions-against-judges-and-deputy-prosecutors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nicolas Guillou<\/a>,\u00a0for their role in issuing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/news\/situation-state-palestine-icc-pre-trial-chamber-i-rejects-state-israels-challenges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrest warrant<\/a> against the Israeli Prime Minister, <strong>Benjamin Netanyahu<\/strong>, and the Israeli Defence Minister, <strong>Yoav Gallant<\/strong>, the spokesperson recalls that \u201cattacks or threats against the courts, elected officials, staff and those who cooperate with the Court are unacceptable.\u201d\u00a0He emphasises that the EU executive has \u201c<strong>worked directly with the Court and the officials concerned to discuss the current situation they find themselves in<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>will continue to assess concrete measures<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0He did not specify what these concrete measures entail, but the European Commission spokesperson for the Internal Market, Industrial Policy and Financial Services, <strong>Siobhan McGarry<\/strong>, went into more detail, highlighting that the Commission is \u201c<strong>aware of the need to provide ongoing support to the Court, both financially and diplomatically<\/strong>\u201d and that it is assessing \u201c<strong>feasible solutions to enable its staff to continue their daily work<\/strong>.\u201d The Berlaymont building states that it is in \u201cconstant contact\u201d with Member States on this matter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels \u2013 &#8220;Attacks or threats against elected officials of the International Criminal Court are unacceptable.&#8221;
