The event brought together cooperatives, institutions and European networks with a clear message<strong>: there can be no competitiveness without social cohesion.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\"><span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The conference was organised into three parallel thematic round tables (<\/span>Agri-food, Fisheries and Large-scale Retail; the European Competitiveness Fund and Sectoral Instruments; Social Europe: Culture, Welfare, Housing<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">), followed by a plenary session. <strong>&#8220;Legacoop wants to understand how we can make room for <\/strong><\/span><strong>policies on competitiveness and the maintenance of a model based on <\/strong><b>social cohesion,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d&nbsp;Gamberini explained. He added that it was necessary to  \u201ccreate the conditions to secure <\/span>more funds<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, ensuring that resources for competitiveness do not come at the expense of <\/span>cohesion funds<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or the CAP, and preserve a <\/span>governance<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that does not fragment common policies into too many national plans.\u201d This is the recipe&nbsp;the president recommended. A recipe in which \u201cthe cooperative sector represents a business alternative that brings together the <\/span><b>centrality of the individual, innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d he observed. \u201cThe European budget must reflect these principles,\u201d Gamberini reiterated, noting that Legacoop\u2019s main objective is \u2018to uphold the idea of a cohesive Europe, where the interests of individual states do not prevail, but rather development and social protection.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\"><span>During the plenary session, the Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms, <b>Raffaele Fitto<\/b>, also highlighted the role of cooperatives, describing them as <strong>&#8220;one of the best examples of how economic growth and social value can go hand in hand.&#8221;<\/strong> In particular, Fitto acknowledged their importance in \u201ccreating jobs, investing in local communities, strengthening  the resilience of local areas and, last but not least, contributing to sustainable and inclusive development.\u201d Furthermore, \u201cin many rural, peripheral, or particularly vulnerable areas, cooperatives constitute an essential economic and social pillar,\u201d he pointed out, noting that \u201ctheir contribution will also be decisive in shaping the new era of European policies.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\"><span><strong>Camilla Laureti<\/strong>, a Member of the European Parliament for the PD (S&amp;D),<strong> <\/strong>highlighted the role of cooperatives, particularly during the debate on the MFF in the European Parliament. Referring to a meeting held at the European Parliament with regions, associations, and representatives of the cooperative model, Laureti described coordination with the latter as \u201cessential, especially at a time like this, <strong><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\">marked by upheaval and uncertainty.\u201d Similarly, PD MEP<\/span> <strong>Brando Benifei<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: normal\">(S&amp;D) stated that &#8220;in the fight for an ambitious and balanced European budget, we can count on the support of the <\/span><\/span><\/strong>cooperative sector<strong><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\"> and, specifically, of <\/span><\/span><\/strong>Legacoop.<strong><b class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\">&#8221; <\/span><\/b><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\">According to Benifei, &#8220;cooperatives are valuable allies because they understand the close link between innovation and social cohesion,&#8221;
