Brussels – With the start of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the industry association Connect Europe is calling on Dublin to turn the European connectivity agenda into a genuine driver of competitiveness, according to a press release issued in Brussels on 6 July.<\/p>\n
According to Connect Europe, Europe\u2019s ambitions in the fields of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and public digital services can only be realised if they are underpinned by high-quality network infrastructure. The association is therefore calling for the Digital Networks Act to become a practical tool for competitiveness rather than a mere exercise in technical codification, focusing on long-term certainty regarding the radio spectrum, a review of the network access regime, a transition from copper to fibre driven by the market rather than by rigid deadlines imposed by the EU, and greater harmonisation of the rules.<\/p>\n
Connect Europe has also commented on the review of the Cybersecurity Act, calling for proportionate measures that do not impose disproportionate costs on operators, and welcomes the Cloud and AI Development Act, stressing the need for policies that enable European networks to invest and grow.<\/p>\n
