She calls for the EU to show determination and firmness, and above all, the ability to&nbsp;act.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\"><span>The Socialist Group has secured a topical&nbsp;debate in the Chamber on the Arab-Israeli conflict and the State of Israel\u2019s response to the Hamas attacks of 7 October 2024. The subject of the debate is &#8220;The EU\u2019s role in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the accountability of Israel under international law<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">.&#8221; An&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/\/OJQ-10-2026-07-08_EN.html#D-10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">event that is scheduled for tomorrow (8 July)<\/a>, immediately following the voting session. <span>Garc\u00eda P\u00e9rez<\/span>, however, breaks the deadlock and offers a glimpse of the Socialists\u2019 position, which is critical of both the European Union and the Israeli government.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\"><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/06\/26\/interview-genocide-in-gaza-chris-sidoti-un-children-are-being-dehumanised\/\">https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/06\/26\/interview-genocide-in-gaza-chris-sidoti-un-children-are-being-dehumanised\/<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\"><span>&#8220;<strong>The EU\u2019s failure to act is what allows Netanyahu to continue crossing every red line,<\/strong>&#8221;&nbsp;the chair of the S&amp;D Group denounced at the traditional press conference organised to set out the group\u2019s priorities ahead of the plenary session. The reference is to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/04\/21\/no-eu-sanctions-against-israel-the-association-agreement-will-not-be-suspended-italy-stands-by-netanyahu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the EU Council\u2019s inability to reach the necessary unanimity, with Italy\u2019s complicity<\/a>, to&nbsp;block the <a href=\"https:\/\/policy.trade.ec.europa.eu\/eu-trade-relationships-country-and-region\/countries-and-regions\/israel_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Association Agreement<\/a> with the Tel Aviv government. The most the European Union has been able to achieve is sanctions against violent settlers \u2013 far too little for the Socialists. Because, in their view, this procrastination allows Israel to act above international and humanitarian law \u2013 a situation that is no longer tolerable, at least for some members of the European Parliament.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\"><span>&#8220;We called for this debate on Gaza because the newspapers do not report on it on a daily basis, but <strong>the disaster continues<\/strong>,&#8221; says Garc\u00eda P\u00e9rez, who is fed up with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/01\/08\/gaza-kallas-there-is-no-justification-for-the-deterioration-of-the-humanitarian-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">condemnations, of which there has been no shortage<\/a>, but for which nothing truly effective has followed.
