Brussels \u2013 Social media and compliance with the rules: X has bowed to the Digital Services Act (DSA) and decided to cooperate with the European Commission by presenting an action plan to ensure transparency and access for researchers. The measures presented by the instant messaging service owned by Elon Musk follow the fine imposed by the European Commission in December 2025<\/a> for breaching European regulations. <\/p>\n

The European Commission has announced that X has committed to improving its archive of advertisements with more efficient search functions and faster response times<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span> There are also plans to publish more information on the adverts and to provide access via digital passwords. X will also ensure that eligible researchers have effective access to public data by improving and speeding up the process for assessing requests, offering free access to data, and updating its terms and conditions to avoid contractually prohibiting eligible researchers from extracting public data.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The plan presented by X in response to the fine imposed at the end of last year has been accepted by Brussels, which is now granting six months to turn commitments into action. X will be subject to \u201can enhanced supervisory regime<\/strong>,\u201d the European Commission states. An independent external assessment will verify whether, and to what extent, the changes regarding transparency and accessibility have been implemented. The report will then be submitted to the European Commission. \u201cShould the external assessment result in recommendations, X must implement them in full<\/strong>.\u201d In accordance with the commitments, the European Commission will regularly update the Board for Digital Services<\/a>, the advisory body established under the DSA (Digital Services Act), which is responsible for coordinating investigations and publishing annual reports on systemic risks.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
