Brussels \u2013 \u201cIt will be a good opportunity to exchange views on the current situation and the lessons learnt from the events in Ceuta.\u201d This is how the European Commissioner for Migration, Magnus Brunner<\/strong>, commented<\/a> on the fact that tomorrow (6 August) an extraordinary meeting of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the \u2060European Parliament<\/span><\/span> (LIBE<\/a>) will be held. The meeting aims to facilitate an exchange of views on the events affecting the Spanish enclave in recent days. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to Brunner, the mayor of Ceuta, Juan Jes\u00fas Vivas Lara<\/strong>, <\/strong> while the Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska<\/strong>, <\/strong> and the Spanish Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz Delgado<\/strong>, have not yet confirmed their attendance. On Ceuta, \u201cthe situation is far from over,\u201d wrote the European Sovereignists Group (ESN) on its social media channels. Regarding tomorrow\u2019s meeting, MEPs stated that \u201cEurope\u2019s external borders must be defended, illegal crossings must be stopped, and those responsible must face the consequences.\u201d In contrast, the French Green MEP and member of the LIBE Committee, Melissa Camara<\/strong>, reiterated that \u201cthe externalisation of migration policy leaves the EU vulnerable to the actions and decisions of authoritarian regimes.\u201d Therefore, \u201cin the midst of humanitarian crises, the EU must provide dignified and sustainable solutions for people forced into exile,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
